N Jonex, S Nadia secure State U-19 boys and girls' Chess titles

Imphal, November 16 2025: Nandeibam Jonex and Sougaijam Nadia emerged toppers in the State Junior (U-19) Boys and Girls' Chess Championship that came to a close today at Mapal Kangjeibung.

The 2-day event was hosted by the Manipur Chess Association.

In the boys competition, rated players Jonex and Dayanand Thoudam shared 4 points but Jonex enjoyed a better SB (Sonnebom-Berger) score (10-7) to finish on top.

Moirangthem Williamba finished third on 3 points while Sougaijam Lemba finished fourth on 2 points.

Leimapokpam Pari and Chabungbam Gijananda meanwhile scored 1 point apiece to seal the fifth and sixth places.

Nadia on the other hand topped the girls competition on 4 points as Hanjabam Rajasmita secured 3 1/2 points and Yumnam Konalika scored 3 points to finish second and third.

Nongthombam Anjelena was fourth on 2 1/2 points in the same competition as Toijam Bhumika scored 2 points and Nongthombam Jojo Chanud drew nil to finish fifth and sixth.

Based on their merits, the top 4 finishers in both the categories were also selected for the upcoming National Junior Boys and Girls Championships to be held from December 16 to 24 at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
