DGP Rajiv Singh inaugurates Girls' Football Tournament in Bishnupur

Bishnupur, October 30 2025: Director General of Police (DGP) Manipur, Rajiv Singh today inaugurated the Bishnupur Girls' Football Tournament 2025 at the Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur.

The tournament is organised by the 8 Battalion CRPF and the District Administration Bishnupur, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Manipur Police, NHPC, and NHIDCL under the theme "Sports for Peace and Development" as part of the Khelo India initiative.

Speaking as the chief guest, DGP Rajiv Singh congratulated the organisers for the initiative and commended the collective efforts to promote women's participation in sports.

Highlighting Manipur's rich sporting legacy, the DGP noted that the State has produced numerous world-class athletes.

Rajiv Singh added, "I am confident that this tournament will nurture the next generation of talented footballers who will carry forward this proud legacy.

Winning is important, but the greatest victory lies in giving your best and learning from every match" .

"SAI deserves appreciation for bringing such initiatives to Manipur, from where India has produced so many legends of sports," he remarked.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Raja Srivastava, SDG, Northeast Zone, CRPF; Rajendra Narayan Dash, IGP, M&N Sector, CRPF; Pooja Elangbam, DC Bishnupur; Abhinav Sharma, Director, SAI; Gursharan Singh, Head of Project, NHPC Manipur; and senior security officers.

In her address, Pooja Elangbam expressed pride in the young athletes and described the tournament as a celebration of talent, teamwork, and determination.

"Our soil has produced numerous athletes who have brought glory not only to the State but to the entire Nation.

Through this initiative, we aim to nurture and encourage the next generation," she added.

Pooja Elangbam further said that sports teach us invaluable lessons - of teamwork, respect, humility, and perseverance.

Winning is wonderful, but learning to accept both victory and defeat with grace makes a true champion.

She further encouraged all players to play with passion, respect, and joy.

The tournament will run till November 3 .
