State Subroto Cup 2025 concludes as IW, Tbl qualify for nationals

The 64th State Level Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2025, organised by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Manipur, concluded across three venues - Langjing Turf Ground, Chajing Kangjeibung, and Thoubal Ningombam Mini Stadium - with champions from 11 districts competing in the Under-15 boys, and Under-17 boys and girls categories.
The final of the Under-17 boys' category was held at Thoubal Ningombam Mini Stadium, where Imphal West edged past Kakching district with a 2-1 victory.
Kakching took an early lead through M Rickson in the 9th minute, but Imphal West bounced back with a 39th-minute equaliser by A Achouba.

With the match tied, extra time was added, and in the 72nd minute, H Prabhaker sealed the win for Imphal West.
Dignitaries including Dr Mayengbam Veto Singh (director, Youth Affairs and Sports), Naorem Praveen Singh (secretary), N Parithoihen Meitei (senior finance officer), Deven Moirangthem (DYASO Thoubal), Padma Shri awardee and international footballer O Bembem Devi, and AIFF executive member Th Tababi Devi attended the closing ceremony.
During the event, the Youth Affairs and Sports Department acknowledged the efforts of District Youth Affairs and Sports Officers and expressed appreciation for the dedication of all participating teams and players.
A short cultural performance was also showcased.
However, disciplinary action was taken against three schools representing Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Noney districts in the Under-17 girls' category for fielding ineligible players.
These schools were disqualified from participating for two years.
Authorities urged all district school officials to adhere strictly to player eligibility rules in future tournaments.
AG Memorial Academy, Thoubal (Under-15 boys) and Yumnam Huidrom Higher Secondary School, Imphal West (Under-17 boys) will now represent Manipur at the National Level Subroto Cup Tournament.
The tournament also recognised outstanding individual performances across both age categories.
In the Un-der-17 Boys category, Thomas of Kangsinlung Higher Secondary School was named best goalkeeper, while Yuki from Langmeidong Higher Secondary School received the most valuable player title.
The best scorer award went to W Guleiba of Daina English School, Imphal East, for his impressive goal tally during the tournament.
In the Under-15 boys' category, AG Memorial Academy, Thoubal, dominated the honours.
Thoungamba was named best player, Malemnganba took the best goalkeeper award, and Mochando Maring was adjudged the most valuable player.
