Imphal, July 16 2025:
Langmeidong Hr Sec School (Kakching) and Yumnam Huidrom Hr Sec School (Imphal West) advanced to the U-17 boys' final of the 64th State Level Subroto Cup Football Tournament 2025 in contrasting fashion at Mini Stadium, Ningombam, on Thursday.
L Yuki scored a brace to help Langmeidong Hr Sec School overcome an early set back to seal a 3-1 win over Diana English School (Imphal East) in the first semifinal.
Imphal East drew first blood in the 22nd minute when W Guleiiba broke through the defence and slotted home a composed finish.
However, Langmeidong responded with determination, and their persistence paid off in the 36th minute as Th Aryan fired in the equaliser, shifting the momentum.
The second half belonged to L Yuki, the match-winner, who took centre stage with a clinical brace.
His first strike came in the 60th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse to put his side ahead, before sealing the victory with a well-timed finish in stoppage time (70+1') .
The Kakching-based side's spirited fightback ensured their place in the final.
The second semifinal was a nail-biting affair, with Yumnam Huidrom Hr Sec School (Imphal West) eventually prevailing 8-7 on penalties against a tenacious Khang-sillung Hr Sec School (Noney) after a hard-fought 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Noney got off to a dream start when Ch Reskin found the net just two minutes into the match, catching Imphal West off guard.
However, Kh Jenish restored parity in the 12th minute with a composed finish, setting the stage for a tense battle that remained deadlocked despite both sides creating chances.
With neither team able to break the deadlock in extra time, the match went to penalties - a test of nerve and precision.
Imphal West held their composure under pressure, converting all eight of their spot-kicks thanks to flawless executions from Ch Yahiya, W Bishal, Kh Jenish, H Pravakar, Y Bikash, Javed Almash, P Harish, and Ph Mangal.
Noney fought valiantly but fell just short in the shootout, ending their campaign in heartbreak.
