Imphal, July 08 2025:
Laitonjam Lanchenba, a promising young swimmer from Manipur, has been selected to represent India at the prestigious 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025, scheduled to be held in Bahrain from October 23 to 27.Hailing from Bheigyabati Leikai in Imphal East, Lanchenba is the son of Laitonjam Kanta and Takhellambam Sonia.
A rising talent from the Central Swimming Club, he is one of only seven boys selected nationwide to form the Indian swimming team - marking a proud moment for both Manipur and the country.
His selection follows a series of outstanding performances at the Swimming Federation of India's selection trials held in Bhubaneswar this June.
Lanchenba clocked 25.96 seconds in the 50m butterfly and 57.66 seconds in the 100m butterfly - both faster than the Group 2 national records of 26.13 and 58.14 seconds respectively.
He also secured second place in the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:13.11, demonstrating his consistency across all three distances.
Currently, Lanchenba is undergoing high-performance training under coach Laitonjam Santosh at the Khuman Lampak Aquatic Centre.
His rapid rise has been attributed to disciplined coaching, dedicated training, and a strong support system that includes pool in-charge Kh Naba and a committed team of scientific and support staff.
Speaking on his achievement, Lanchenba said, "I sincerely thank my coach, Laitonjam Santosh, for guiding me with discipline, dedication, and advanced techniques.
I am also deeply grateful to the Khuman Lampak Pool authorities and the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Training in a standard Olympic-size pool has significantly improved my technique, confidence, and performance - enabling me to compete at both national and international levels" .
Lanchenba, along with fellow elite swimmers under coach Santosh, is currently undergoing high intensity scientific training in preparation for the upcoming National Age Group Swimming Championships in August.
