State Level Wushu Championship commences Wushu encompasses elements of both culture and sports: L Jayantakumar

Imphal, February 27 2018: The 18th State Level Sub-Junior and Junior Wushu Championship 2018 being organised by Wushu Association of Manipur kick-started today at Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak in the presence of Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar as chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that Wushu is a form martial art which contains both the elements of culture and sports and like other disciplines it should also be given equal priority.

Reiterating that Manipur is a State of Sports and Culture, he urged for a continuous hard work and dedication so that imminent players in the discipline can be produced and set a new platform before all.

Advocate, Kh Bheigya, senior vice president, Wushu Association of Manipur, Sunil Elanbam, General Secretary, Manipur Olympic Association and Ksh Jugindro, vice president, Wushu Association of Manipur also attended the inaugural function as dignitaries.

The first day of the championship saw SAI-RC fetch 10 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze medal to hold top spot of the medal tally.

Central Wushu Institute (CWI) are following them closely with a total of 14 medals including 4 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Sub-Junior Boys (Group B) .

SAI-RC opened the gold medal account in the sub-junior boys Group-B nan quan event through Bonish who secured 7.86 points while Nelson of Imphal East scored 7.06 to bag the silver medal.

CWI's Eyaithoi claimed the bronze medal in this event with 6.49 points.

Bishworjit of SAI-RC bagged the second gold medal in the chan quan event of the same category scoring 6.99 points.

Thoungamba of CWI bagged the first gold medal in the tai chi quan event for sub-junior boys (Group-B) registering 7.06 points while his compatriot A William bagged the silver medal scoring 6.93 points.

Monish of SAI-RC bagged the bronze medal in this event.

In the nan dao event of the same category, Boris bagged another gold medal with a score of 7.45 points while CWI's Dibesh and Nelson bagged the silver and bronze medals securing 6.79 and 6.72 points respectively.

Sub-junior Girls (Group B) .

In the nan quan event for Group-B sub-junior girls, Langlentombi of Imphal east scored 7 points to fetch the gold medal while Christina (SAI-RC) and Nishika (I/E) bagged the silver and the bronze medals with 6.80 and 6.12 points respectively.

In the chan quan event of the same category, Y Echantombi added another gold medal for SAI-RC scoring 7.26 points while CWI's Omega and Ningthibi claimed the silver and the bronze medals respectively with 6.73 and 6.73 points.

Jona Prince of CWI scored 7.06 points in the Taichi quan event to lay her hand on the gold medal while Olica Naorem of SAI-RC finished second with 6.83 points to win the silver medal.

L Pinky of CWI bagged the bronze medal in this event with 6.76 points.

In the nan dao event, Imphal East's Langlentombi bagged her second gold medal scoring 7.33 points while Christina of SAI-RC claimed the silver medal with 6.43 points.

Sub-Junior Boys (Group C) .

Achom Tapas of SAI-RC added another gold medal in the Group-C sub-junior boys chan quan event with 7.37 points while L Nelson and Thoungamba of CWI bagged the silver and the bronze medals.

Sub-Junior Girls (Grp C) .

In the chan quan event for sub-junior girls (Group C), Ng Kajal of CWI bagged the gold medal scoring 7.03 points while Taniya of SAI-RC claimed the silver medal with 6.52 points.

Keya of CWI bagged the bronze medal in this event.

O Malemnganbi of CWI scored 7.59 points in the tai chi quan event of the same category.

Junior Boys .

H Karnajit added a gold medal in the tai chi quan event for junior boys with 8 points while S Amarjit bagged another gold medal in the nan quan event with 6.50 points.

In the chan quan event, S Kishan of the same team bagged another gold medal for SAI-RC with 6.20 points.

Junior Girls .

SAI-RC added another two gold medals in the junior girls' nan quan and chan quan events.

Subita scored 6.40 points in the nan quan event to win the gold medal.

Lanchenbi won the other gold medal in the chan quan with 6.15 points while Chaobi of the same unit bagged the silver medal scoring 6.10 points.
