Top seeds shine, upsets add drama on Day 2 of Jr Badminton C'ship

Imphal, July 24 2025: The second day of the 69th State Open Junior Badminton Championship witnessed a flurry of high-octane matches at Manipur State Badminton Association's multipurpose hall (DM University Campus), with players across age categories battling for a spot in the next rounds.

In the boys' singles U19 category, top-seeded Rishav Ngangom (BDBA) held off a spirited challenge from Su-shanta Moirangthem (KDBA), prevailing 21-9, 15-21, 21-19 in the Round of 16 .

Pfoki Li-runa (SDBA), seeded fourth, delivered a commanding performance against Mahesh Sanasam (BDBA) with a 21-7, 21-7 victory.

Notable results also included Kyoveio Vemai (SDBA) upsetting third-seed Shaikhom Gung Singh (TDBA) 21-19, 22-20, and Martin In-gudam (BDBA) dispatching fifth-seed Chirom Bose Singh (IWDBA) 21-19, 21-15 .

Hemam Malemnganba Singh (BDBA), seeded eighth, continued his solid form, ousting Mongjam Vivek Meitei (IWDBA) 21-14, 21-10, while second-seeded Lourembam Thoungam Singh (IWDBA) defeated Sanaren Athokpam (IEDBA) 21-11, 21-10 .

In the girls' singles U19 Round of 16, Angom Lanchenbi Devi (IWDBA) easily overcame Urbashi Thokchom with a 21-7, 21-4 win, and Laishram Anjelia Devi (IWDBA) got the better of Rekispa Soubam (TDBA) 21-10, 21-8 .

Meanwhile, Chanulembi Sapam (IWDBA) received a walkover.

The boys' doubles U19 category also featured intense contests.

The duo of Martin Ingudam and Pfoki Liruna (BDBA/SDBA) edged past Neelachal Pheiroijam and Pouchundibou Newmai in a thrilling three-game encounter (21-17, 16-21, 2118), while Kalo Truman and Khomdram Netij Acceber (SDBA/BDBA) beat Akash Akoijam and Charles Babbage Oinam 21-10, 21-15 .

Younger shuttlers in the boys' singles U-13 event also impressed.

Top-seeded Yangba Meitei Thokchom (IEDBA) cruised past Asengyangba Na-meirakpam 21-2, 21-7, while other players including Chirom Netcover Singh (IWDBA), Kelvin Thiyam (BDBA), and Tomthinnganba Sougrakpam (IEDBA) comfortably advanced to the next round.
