Four state boxers book quarterfinal berths at Junior National Boxing Championship

Imphal, June 21 2025:
Four state boxers secured their spots in the quarterfinals of the 6th (U-17) Junior Boys' National Boxing Championship 2025 after delivering impressive performances in the pre-quarterfinals on Saturday.
The trio of Thouna Luwang Usham, Lanchenba Singh and Mahesh Singh Leimapokpam advanced to the junior boys' quarterfinals, while Artina Devi Naorem punched her way to the girls' last eight.
Junior Boys' Event:
In the 46kg category, Thouna Luwang Usham dominated his bout, defeating Ritesh Karngami of Maharashtra with a clean 5-0 sweep to book his place in the quarterfinals.
The 50kg division saw another commanding performance, as Lanchenba Singh outclassed Sayal Kami of Sikkim with a 5-0 unanimous decision, securing his progression.
In a closely contested 70kg pre-quarterfinal, Mahesh Singh Leimapokpam edged past Md Fasi Ur Rahman of Telangana in a thrilling 3-2 split verdict to advance.
However, there was disappointment for Lancheba Meitei Khundon, who suffered a 1-4 defeat against Prabal Pratap Singh of Uttar Pradesh in the 60kg category , bowing out of the competition.
Junior Girls' Event:
The state's female boxers also made their mark, with Artina Devi Naorem delivering a standout performance in the 60kg division.
She overpowered Manisha Ghosh of West Bengal, forcing a Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) in the second round to seal her quarterfinal berth.
Additionally, in the 52kg category, Maria Pame triumphed over Kaanti of Chandigarh to move into the pre-quarterfinals, keeping her medal hopes alive.
