Independence Cup: Karate silver medallist Kh Poirei feted

Imphal, August 11 2025: Locals of Haorang Sabal today felicitated Khuraijam Poirei who brought home a silver medal from the 19th All India Independence Cup Karate Championship that was held from August 7 to 10 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi organised under the aegis of Karate India Organization by the All India Seiko Kai Karate Federation & Bharat Karate Academy, India.

Khuraijam Poirei is the son of Khuraijam Kumar of Haorang Sabal and was among 12 medallists who made Manipur proud at the National championship.

Poirei won the silver medal in the 55 kg category kumite competition for players under 9 years.

Poirei, who trains under Nongmaithem Surjit expressed delight over the achievement on his National debut following his gold medal feat at the State level championship.

He also expressed his desire to carry forward his form and win more medals in the State, National and international level competitions in the future.

Speaking at the occasion, father of Poirei, Kumar expressed happiness on the achievement of his son.

He maintained that he was caught by surprise when he learnt that his son has won a silver medal at the championship.

He also expressed his desire to help him focus in the sports discipline and see more success.
