Athoiba's record swim powers Manipur to boys' team crown at Junior Nationals

Koijam Athoiba set a new national record in the 100m freestyle to headline Manipur's impressive showing on the third day of the 51st Junior National Aquatic Championships 2025 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
His stellar performance also earned him the Best Swimmer (boys) accolade.
Building on their momentum, Manipur emerged as team champions in the boys' section and secured the overall runners-up position, capping off the event with a series of strong and spirited performances that underlined the state's growing prominence in aquatic sports.

On Tuesday, the state squad added two gold, three silver, and one bronze medals to their tally.
Athoiba's record-breaking swim secured gold in the 100m freestyle and he also played a crucial role in the silver-winning 4x50m medley relay team, alongside Lai tonjam Pangban, Soram Deitusen, and Mangalsana Thangjam, Himanshu Nahakpam added to the medal tally with a silver in the 100m freestyle and a bronze in the 100m backstroke.
In diving, Awebam Benhar won gold in the 1m springboard with a remarkable score of 255.04 points, while Hirom Bonson Singh claimed silver in the same event with 199.05 points.
