Equestrian championships concludes

Imphal, February 04 2014: The 11th edition of Director General Assam Rifles Cup State Equestrian Championship organised conjointly by IGAR (South) and Manipur Equestrian Association culminated along with a glittering closing ceremony at Polo Ground here today.

The chief guest of the ceremony, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, DGAR was accorded a warm welcome with a traditional Manipuri reception and presentation of Pot�Lanba.

Maj Gen Rajeev Chopra, IGAR (South), Shri K Radhakumar Singh, IAS, DC Imphal (West) and a host of Civil and Military dignitaries graced the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, PVSM, AVSM, SM, DGAR said that the DGAR Cup State Equestrian Championship and IGAR (South) Junior Equestrian Championship is a radiant and eloquent testimony of the Assam Rifles enthusiastic zeal to encourage the strong sports culture of Manipur.

"It is also an endeavour to save the rare breed of Manipuri pony from the brink of extinction", he added.

The whole ceremony was full of pomp and splendour but the cynosure of the ceremony were the traditional Manipuri Pung and Dhol Cholom and the exhibition of Sagol Kangjei (Traditional Manipuri Polo) which received accolades from the gathering on their performances.

The prize winners in Senior category were as follows - Lance Individual : 1st Prize- L Olendro Singh of Kangleipak PSC, 2nd Prize - N Ranjan Singh of IRC, 3rd Prize - H Jibon Singh of Chingkheihunba PC-C ; Sword Individual : 1st Prize - H Sanjit Singh of Chingkheihunba PC-B, 2nd Prize - L Olendro Singh of Kangleipak PSC, 3rd Prize - M Surjit Singh of MPSC ; Show Jumping Individual : 1st Prize - Th Ranjit,Singh of MPSC-A, 2nd Prize - L Mocha Singh of Nombul Mapal PC-B, 3rd Prize -S Jemeson of Khurai PC; Lance Team � 1st prize - Chingkheihunba PC-A, 2nd Prize - Eastern Student Club-B, 3rd Prize - Kangleipak PSC; In Junior category � Lance Individual - 1st Prize- Laishemba Takhellambam of Kangleipak PSC, 2nd Prize - H Chand Singh of Thangmeiband YPC, 3rd Prize - Kh Thomas Singh of Khurai PC; Show Jumping 1st Prize- L Tony Singh of Nambul Mapal PC, 2nd Prize - S Sarat Singh of Nagamapal YPC, 3rd Prize - N Babullu Singh of Chingkheihunba PC; Girls category � Show Jumping for girls 1st Prize- Neelu R K of Chingkheihunba Polo Club, 2nd Prize - Ashem Romabati, Eastern Student Club, 3rd Prize - S Sangeeta Devi of IRC; Best March past 1st Prize- Manipur Police Sports Club, 2nd Prize - Khurai Polo Club, 3rd Prize - Nambul Mapal PC.

Overall Trophy for the 11th DGAR Cup State Equestrian Championship and 5th IGAR (South) Junior Equestrian Championship went to Chingkheihunba Polo Club.

The competition was finally declared closed by the chief guest, which was marked by lowering of the flag and 'Beating - the - Retreat' by the pipe band of Assam Rifles.
