Manipur State Chess Association conducts U17 Chess C'ship

Imphal, September 20 2026: The Manipur State Chess Association today conducted a State championship cum trial selection to prepare the State team for the upcoming National U17 Open and Girls' Chess Championships that will be held from September 28 to October 6 .

In the State championship cum trial held today at the office of the Manipur State Chess Association in a Swiss Round Format, Elangbam Mangal and Nadia Sougaijam emerged toppers in the boys and the girls' segments.

Elangbam Mangal and Lemba Sougaijam shared the same 2.5 pts to make the 1-2 finishes and will be representing Manipur at the National championship.

The day also saw Elangbam Prichard and Jonex Nandeibam make 3-4 finishes on the same 1.5 points as RK Paikhomba and Chingtham Reginald finished fifth and sixth.

Meanwhile, Nadia secured 4 points to secure pole position in the girls' competition as Rajasmita Hanjabam bagged 3 points to finish second.

The duo will be representing Manipur at the National championship.

Y Thoithoi and L Shanaya, meanwhile scored 2 points apiece to finish third and fourth as Y Ghanapiyari and I Linthoi finished 5th and 6th .
