Imphal, August 14 2025:
In a spirited initiative to promote youth engagement and exposure to National-level sports, Assam Rifles facilitated approximately 500 students and teachers from Ukhrul and Kamjong districts to witness the football matches of the 134th edition of the prestigious Durand Cup held at Khuman Lampak Stadium, Imphal.
From 30 July to 12 August 2025, students from remote villages including Ukhrul, Tolloi, Shangshak, and Chassad were given the opportunity to witness high-energy football matches and cultural festivities, including the grand Opening Ceremony on 30 July.
Assam Rifles provided logistical support, enabling safe and seamless travel for the youth to attend the event - many for the first time in their lives.
While not involved in the conduct of the tournament, Assam Rifles played a pivotal role in connecting young minds from far-flung regions to the vibrant world of professional sports.
The exposure to the Durand Cup - a tournament steeped in history and prestige - ignited enthusiasm, broadened horizons, and inspired many to consider sports not just as recreation, but as a viable path to personal growth, discipline, and even future employment.
The initiative aimed to cultivate a spirit of sportsmanship, national pride, and healthy living among the youth, while also reinforcing the importance of inclusion and opportunity.
For many students, the experience was transformative - an unforgettable blend of excitement, inspiration, and motivation.
Teachers and students expressed heartfelt gratitude to Assam Rifles for facilitating their participation, acknowledging the force's commitment to youth development and community outreach.
The gesture strengthened civil-society bonds and reaffirmed Assam Rifles' role as a catalyst for empowerment and unity in the North East, said PRO IGAR (S) in a press release.
