MAKKA observes 1st International Kho-Kho Day

The Manipur Amateur Kho-Kho Association today joined in observing the "1st International Kho-Kho Day" today at various venues under the auspices of the State association and its district units.
Exhibition matches and awareness programmes on the sports discipline and its utilities were the main highlights of the observance of the day, said MAKKA in a press release.
MAKKA general secretary Madhusudon presided over the main event hosted at BASU ground, Khangabok and spoke on the importance of the day, it said.
Other places where the day was observed include PYDC, Khangabok Cherapur; SENDYC, Salungpham and SCEASDO, Heirok under Thoubal district unit; PRSC ground, Pourabi and SADA ground, Sanjenbam under Imphal East unit; ASKKA ground, Awang Sekmai and ALMYA ground, Awang Leikinthabi under Imphal West unit; Kumbi Sandhong and YGC ground, Chingmei under Bishnupur unit and SHGIRCS, Pangaltabi and WESC, Wabagai under Kakching unit, it said.
International Kho Kho Day signifies the global recognition and promotion of the traditional Indian sport, Kho Kho.
It highlights the sport's cultural significance and its journey from a rural game to an internationally recognized competition.
Notably, the first-ever Kho Kho World Cup was hosted by India from January 13 to 19 in New Delhi this year marking a significant step towards internationalizing the sport.
The global event organised by the Kho-Kho Federation of India saw participation of 23 Nations from 6 continents.
20 teams competed in the men's event and 19 teams competed in the women's event and India were crowned champions in both the categories.
