Kamjong District Weightlifting Association conducts talent hunt

Imphal, September 02 2025: In a first, the Kamj ong District Weightlifting Association today conducted a talent hunt programme in collaboration with the Kamjong District Olympic Association at the district's Riha village.

Altogether, eighty one children, 36 girls and 45 boys took part in the talent hunt, said the Kamjong District Weightlifting Association in a press release.

A team of experts comprising Sanasam Brojendro, general secretary, Manipur Weightlifting Association and coaches from Youth Affairs and Sports Department and National Sports Academy- Ch Premita Devi, T Bobo Singh, and M Sunibala Devi, screened the young enthusiasts, it said.

Speaking at the programme Womgam Ningshen, IGP Intelligence and NAB said that the initiatives of the Kamjong District Weightlifting Association had come at the most appropriate time.

"With the right guidance and support from the society, our children will bring laurels for the State and the country," he said.

Sunil Elangbam, president Manipur Olympic Association, who was also present at the event, said that the turnout for the talent hunt was highest in the history of Manipur.

The physical features and the dietary habits of the state are an added advantage for weight lifting, he observed.

"I am delighted that the Kamjong District Weightlifting Association has started the talent hunt.

In the future, other disciples would follow," he said.

Ngachonmi Ramshang, president, Kamjong District Olympic Association drew the attention of the parents to encourage their children to take part in games and sports, which will bring a healthy society and better habits in the younger generations.

"It is also important to groom our children for competitive sports as there are also many avenues and opportunities," he said.

N Ibungochoubi, joint secretary, Manipur Olympic Association meanwhile exuded confidence that the children of Kamjong district will someday be torchbearers of a new era of sports.

Aaron Ramshang, president Kamjong District Weightlifting Association, on the other hand said that the children would benefit from such exposure conducted in the presence of experienced coaches of the State.

He further assured that the best environment for the children with the latest technology and guidance will be made available.
