Tae-Kwando championship kicks off

The 32nd National Senior Tae-Kwando Championship 2013 has kickstarted at the Indoor Stadium, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here on Friday.
Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam opened the championship in the presence of Thanga constituency MLA and chairman of the organizing committee of the competition T Mangibabu, Agriculture and Fisheries minister Abdul Nasir, All Manipur Tae-Kwando Association (AMTA) president Y Khemchand and other dignitaries who were at the dais.
Gaikhangam in his speech said it is indeed impressive of the game and sports that have made immense contribution in bringing peace and development and in enhancing the popularity of a country on the world stage.
Saying that notwithstanding the shortage of infrastructure, the contribution made by the state young sportspersons is really laudable, the Deputy Chief Minister mentioned the name of London Olympic Games bronze medalist MC Mary Kom.
Mangibabu said the championship being organised by AMTA will certainly play a significant role in producing more national and international tae-kwando players from the state.
He said now Manipur has 14 Olympians, two Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awardees, 13 Arjuna Awardees, one Dronacharya Awardee and another Dhyanchand Awadee, expressing happiness on receiving such big achievements by the state.
A total of 32 teams, including Services, SSB, CRPF and ITBP are participating in the
national event.
