Imphal, September 20 2013 :
After blocking road traffic for three consecutive days from August 21 to 23 last in the name of repairing NH 37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) but leaving it in its deplorable condition, Border Road Organisation (BRO) blocked the National Highway once again for another three days from September 16 to 18 .
But there has been no improvement in the condition of the road.
Thus, BRO has cheated the people yet again, H Ranjit, President of Transporters and Drivers' Council (TDC) alleged.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Ranjit recalled that BRO had earlier blocked NH-37 on the pretext of repairing the road but had only put in mud along the road stretch, thus, creating more problems to the goods laden trucks to pass through.
After this first instance, BRO once again blocked the road from September 16 to 18 but the repairing was done in such a way that they have left it after scattering some stone chips and putting in mud all along.
As such, the goods laden trucks passing along NH-37 have begun experiencing problems yet again, Ranjit informed.
He went to on state that the condition of NH-37 from Barak to Kambiron is still in a deplorable state.
A number of trucks from Imphal proceeding towards Jiribam along with security personnel yesterday after the BRO gave the green signal to proceed claiming that the repairing process has been completed, were forced to hold the night on the road as the road was in such a bad shape.
So, BRO has once again cheated the people of Manipur, Ranjit asserted.
He also appealed to the State Government to inspect the repairing works that the BRO has supposedly done or else the road would remain unfit for travelling forever.
The condition of the highway still remains deplorable with more than 800 Imphal bound loaded vehicles including 102 carrying fertiliser and 289 rice laden trucks got stranded at Kambiron, Barak and Sibilong areas, Ranjit pointed out.
Ranjit disclosed that TDC would be taking up legal actions against BRO for blocking the National Highway in the name of repairing the road but cheating the people.
