14th Governor's Taekwondo Cup 2018 : UTA emerge overall team champions with 490 points

Imphal, May 13 2018:
Union Taekwondo Academy, Yumnam Leikai who clinched overall team title at the 30th State Level Taekwondo Championship 2017-18 held in February left other units far behind to claim overall team title of the 14th Governor's Taekwondo Cup 2018 with 490 points from 74 medals including 29 gold, 22 silver and 23 bronze medals.
The competition was organised by All Manipur Taekwondo Association at Indoor Stadium Khuman Lampak and a total of 267 boys and 138 girls from 15 units took part in it.
Yumnam Khemchand, Speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly; Bobby Waikhom; IAS, President, All Manipur Taekwondo Association; Kongkham Robindro, Deputy Speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly attended the closing ceremony as distinguished guests who also gave away prizes to the winners and other participants.
UTA, Yumnam Leikai were felicitated with champions trophy (rolling) and Rs 20,000 while National Sports Academy which bagged 18 gold, 12 silver and 8 silver medals to earn 300 points claimed the runners up team title and were awarded Rs 10,000 as cash prize.
SAI-RC which finished runners up with 226 points from 8 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze medals were also feted with a trophy and cash prize of Rs 5,000 on the occasion.
Day 4 events .
Sub-Junior Boys: M Samson of HTA clinched gold medal in the 27 kg sub-junior boys competition while K Niraj and T Bryan of PTA claimed the silver and the bronze medals.
Th Birjatra also claimed a bronze medal in this weight group.
The U-32 kg title went to S Rikison of NSA while Ch Chinglensana of UTA bagged the silver medal.
Bn Abdul Hafiz of Sora Unit and O Punsiba of CTI-S claimed the bronze medals.
Sub-Junior Girls L: Alevia of UTA claimed the U-24 kg sub-junior girls title beating Y Devika of HTA while N Sania of NSA clinched U-29 title beating Kh Quana of PTA.
A Lireebi Chanu and N Martina won the bronze medals in the U-29 kg event.
Cadet Boys: Ak Aken Singh of PTA added the first gold medal for his unit on the last day beating Y Sadanada of NSA in the U-57 Kg cadet boys final while HTA's Th Akash and S Sangba of NSA won the bronze medals.
Cadet Girls: Th Lucky of SAI-RC bagged a gold medal in the U-44 kg cadet girls final event while NSA's L Bijiya won the silver medal.
Martina Wahengbam of UTA and S Priyarani of SAI-RC bagged the bronze medals in this event.
In the U-51 kg event, Th Sarbina of HTA beat RK Reshika to win the gold medal while Sadika Prabina and Suhan Kheleibam of Sora claimed the bronze medals.
Junior Boys: P Bhopen of NSA won the junior boys' U-59 kg title overcoming RK Dhanajit of SAIRC while M Chitaranjan of SAIRC and Raj Laishram settled for the bronze medals.
In the U-78 kg final bout, Maibam Robert of UTA bagged the gold medal.
Junior Girls: UTA's U Gunabati fetched the junior girls' U-52 kg title beating Th Sanjita of NSA in the final while the bronze medal went to T William Chanu of SAI-RC.
N Helena of NSA won the gold medal in the U-68 kg event of the same category .
Senior Boys: M Pareihanba of UTA beat his compatriot Frank Longjam to win gold medal in the senior boys' U-68 kg final while L Ajay of Nambol and Rishika of SAI-RC claimed the bronze medals.
In the U-87 kg event, H Manichandra of CTI-S claimed the gold medal while K Edison of ESU won the silver.
Senior Girls: UTA's L Joypriya Chanu overcame Haothoikim Chongboi of the same unit to win the senior girls' U-57 kg title while S Monika of IBSA bagged the bronze medal.
In the senior girls' U-73 kg final bout, RK Kiran of CTI-S beat S Sushmita of UTA to win the gold medal.
