Gold medal rush for Imphal East fencers on Day 2
Imphal East fencers shone on Day 2 of the 21st Governor's Cup State Level Fencing Championship being underway at SAI NERC Indoor Stadium, Takyel to amass 25 medals including 7 gold, 6 silver and 12 bronze medals.
Th Jeccyon, N Piyanganbi of Imphal East win Epee gold medals for sub-junior boys and girls
The Jeccyon added Imphal East a gold medal in the subjunior boys' Epee competition by defeating compatriot Chidananda in the final today.
Jeccyson reached the final by defeating Y Krishan of Imphal East in the semi-final while Chidananda reached the final by getting better of O Rio of Imphal East in another semi-final match.
N Piyanganbi also defeated compatriot H Loyanganbi 15-4 in the final to seal the girls' gold medal.
Piyanganbi made it to the final with a 15-6 win over Y Khristina of Imphal West in a semi-final clash as H Loyanganbi outlasted compatriot S Chilsilla 15-10 in another semi-final clash.
Richtopper, Someka claim sub-junior boys and girls' sabre gold medals
N Richtopper and Th Someka, both representing Imphal East also earned gold medals in the sub-junior boys and girls' Sabre competitions today.
Richtopper sealed the gold medal with a 15-14 hardfought win against compatriot N Dextor in the final today.
Richtopper entered the final with a 15-7 win over H Luching of Imphal East while Dextor outlasted L Khumanlakpa 15-9 in another semi-final match.
Someka won the gold medal defeating N Lucky of Imphal West in the final clash by 156 points.
Someka reached the final with a 15-0 thrashing of K Yaiphabi of Imphal West as Lucky got the better of Imphal East's N Erica by 15-12 points to complete the final line up.
IE's Dorando, IW's N Roshina win gold medal for sub-junior boys and girls
Imphal East's Dorando won his unit a gold medal with a 15-13 win over compatriot N Thoihensana in the final today.
Dorando reached the final with a 15-7 win over S Shyrus of Imphal West in a semi-final match while Thoihensana pulled off a 15-5 win over T Korounganba in the other semi-final match.
N Rashina on the other hand sealed a 15-9 win over Imphal East's Ch Pushpa in the final today.
Rashina entered the final with a 15-3 win over A Josina of Imphal East as Ch Pushpa outlasted M Alish 15-5 in another semi-final match.
Nongpoknganba, Nora strike gold in foil competition for children category
P Nongoknganba and N Nora Leima of Imphal East earned top honours in the foil competition for children category of the Championship on day 2 by dominating their rivals.
P Nongpoknganba pulled off a 15-9 win against K Bedaraj of Imphal West in the final to win the boys' gold medal.
Nongpoknganba got a first round (quarterfinals) bye before defeating compatriot Elison 1512 in the semi-final to book his place in the final.
K Bedaraj meanwhile beat compatriot S Richie 15-2 in the quarterfinals before defeating H Senyaichen of Imphal East 155 to enter the final.
In other quarterfinal matches, Elison defeated Sh Chingkhei of Kakching 15-14 while H Senyaichen saw out Neelgriv of Imphal East 15-7 .
Meanwhile in the girls' final, N Nora Leima defeated compatriot N Tyra 15-2 to seal the gold medal.
Tyra reached the final with a 15-11 win over L Dushila in the semis.
With 25 medals added today, Imphal East are enjoying pole position in the medal tally with 9 gold, 10 silver and 17 bronze medals.
Imphal West, with 5 gold, 4 silver and 8 bronze medals are following Imphal East in second place.
