K Nandini, Th Malemnganbi fire Manipur 9-0 past Tamil Nadu
Keithellakpam Nandini Devi and Thoudam Malemnganbi Devi scored three goals apiece to fashion Manipur a comprehensive 9-0 win against Tamil Nadu in the second Group B match of the Sub-Junior Girls ' National Football Championship Tier I at Jorhat Stadium this morning.
It was second win for the State lasses having beaten hosts Assam 2-1 on August 21 at the same venue courtesy of goals from Thoudam Malemnganbi and Ahunwangliu Khengtamei.
The State girls were quick off the blocks and raced to a 4-0 first half lead before pouring in five more goals in the second half to set up the 9-0 win.
Player of the match Keithellakpam broke the deadlock in the 10th minute before Ningombam Delina doubled the advantage in the 27th minute.
Nandini had her second in the 31st minute to make it 3-0 before Thoudam Malemnganbi earned Manipur the 4-0 advantage.
There was no respite for Tamil Nadu girls as the State eves picked up the game from where they left and it was Thoudam Malemnganbi who completed her brace at the stroke of the hour mark to make it 5-0 before Takhellambam Reziya who subbed in for Delina further extended the lead to 6-0 after 65 minutes.
Tamil Nadu sank further as Thoudam Malemnganbi netted her third in the 72nd minute before Senjam Dasila made it 8-0 after 79 minutes.
The State girls kept pressing despite the huge lead and Nandini was at it again in the 88th minute to complete her treble and the 9-0 demolition work.
In another Group B match staged later in the day at the same venue, Assam defeated Delhi by 3-0 goals thanks to a hattrick by Kritika Hazowary (63', 73', 81') .
With the results, Manipur go atop the Group B table with two of two wins (6 pts) as Assam go second with a win (3 pts) above Delhi.
Manipur will play Delhi in the final group stage match on August 25 .
