48th State Level Senior Men and Women's Handball Tournament begins

Imphal, July 22 2026: The 48th edition of the State Level Senior Men and Women's Handball Tournament kicked off today at YLK ground, Chingarel Tejpur, Imphal East this afternoon.

As many as 8 men's teams and 6 women's teams clustered into two pools are taking part in the tournament.

The opening day of the tournaments saw hosts YLK beat KKLYDO, Kongpal by 16-7 goals in the women's opener (Pool A) before YLK beat NSU 17-9 in the men's opener (Pool B) .

In the women's opening match, Y Monika scored 7 goals alone to steer the hosts team to the 16-7 victory against KKLYDO.

Her compatriot N Sophiya meanwhile netted 3 goals as N Bijaya and L Aliya added 2 goals apiece and Kh Melody and N Vidyanandini added 1 goal apiece.

N Dolly (2), RK Nilamjoyshree (2), Th Christina (1), M Lucky (1) and K Ayingbi (1) were on target for KKLYDO in this match.

Later in the men's opening match, A Bikramjit shone with 8 goals as L Beckham and E Priyokumar scored 3 goals apiece to earn YLK a 17-9 win over NSU.

Ng Krishnakanta (2) and Md Sahrukhan (1) meanwhile contributed the remaining 3 goals.

For NSU, Y Romario top-scored with 5 goals as Manglem (2), Visma (1) and Enungyai (1) managed 4 goals.

The day also witnessed OYO, Kongpal getting the better of KKLYDO by 17-12 goals in the Pool A opener.

RK Devajit and N Lamjingba led the scoring for OYO by scoring 4 goals each as T Sunderjit scored 3 goals and the trio of Ksh General, B Bikash and Th Lucky scored 2 goals apiece.

For KKLYDO, Th Bikash scored thrice as M Rajkumar, Th Sonamani and M Leishemba scored 2 goals apiece.

Th Bidyachandra, Ch Ajitkumar and Chingthanganba also contributed a goal apiece for the team.
