CYLC overcome Model Club's fightback to win 52-43, Youth Club end losing streak with 35-27 win over TDBBA
CYLC, Chingamathak overcame Model Club, Chingamakha's fightback courtesy of L Telheiba to seal a 52-43 win ina high scoring Group A encounter of the ongoing 15th State Junior Boys Basketball Championship this morning at Brahmapur Nahabam Basketball Court.
CYLC got off to flying start to take the first quarter 11 -5 with Leishangthem Leishemba's leading the scoring but Telheiba dazzled with 4 triples in the second and third quarters to lead the hand Model Club 15-10 and 16-15 lead and put his team on level terms (36-36) with CYLC.
Model Club however failed to carry forward their momentum in the deciding quarter and CYLC ran away with a 16-7 lead to seal the 52-43 win courtesy of Achom Prince who slam-dunked three times in the said quarter to make the huge difference.
Prince emerged the highest point getter for the winners adding 18 points, as L Telheiba did it for the Model Club, while Leishangthem Leishemba followed suit with 15 points including a triple.
Laiphrakpam Leishemba also contributed 9 points including a triple while Daniel Khuraijam added 6 points and Wungshungmi Siro and Potsangbam Vega added 2 points apiece.
For Model Club, Laishram Billgates added second highest 8 points after Telheiba as Th Sotindrachan added 6 points, H Rahul added 4 points, A Thomba added 3 points (triple) and A Shatish and H Lanchenba added 2 points apiece.
It was the second win for CYLC in the group round.
In another Group A competition staged later in the afternoon.
Youth Club, Uripok beat TDBBA, Thoubal 35-27 thanks to Y Wilson's leading performance to end their two-game losing streak.
Y Wilson scored 3 triples on the way to Youth Club's highest 13 points as Y Taibanganba (8 pts), Y Benjamin (6 pts), Y Lanchenba (5 pts) and Sh Bishwananda (3) contributed 22 points to set up the victory.
L Shitaljit meanwhile led the scoring for TDBBA on 11 points as Y Binison (7 pts) and L Biyas (5 pts) shared 12 points and N Jonathan and Y Sachindrakumar added 2 points apiece.
In a Group B match staged later in the evening, BDBA defeated LMYVA, Lalambung Makhong by 49-43 points despite Dhanaraj's 27-point contribution.
LMYVA led the first quarter 18-9 before securing an 18-6 second quarter lead but BDBA rallied back with L Shangkerson playing a pivotal role to turn things around and set up the 49-43 victory.
Shangkerson finished with the highest 17 points including a triple as M Suryajeet (14 pts) and M Sendick (10 pts) followed suit.
L Sadananda and T Shashikanta also added 2 points apiece for the winning side.
Meanwhile Dhanaraj added an impressive total of 27 points to the LMYVA's tally as Gourav added 11 points including a triple.
Kelvin also scored a three-point field goal for LMYVA as Malemson added 2 points.
Sub-Junior Girls: Catherine leads ESU to 37-11 win over YOSC in tourney opener
The 38th State Sub-Junior Girls Basketball Championship also kicked off today with ESU, Wangkhei handing YOSC, Khurai a crushing 37-11 defeat on the back of N Katherine's leading 23-point finish including a triple in the first quarter.
Sh Odishika meanwhile added 10 points and N Nelcy scored 4 points for the winners.
T Lanchenbi on the other hand led the scoring for YOSC by adding 7 points including a triple as Th Thasana added 2 points and Sh Bunny and T Thoithoibi converted one free throw apiece.
Sub-Junior Boys : LMYVA, Youth Club register comprehensive wins
The day also saw LMYVA and Youth Club securing comprehensive victories in the 5-team State Level Sub-Junior Boys' Basketball Championship.
LMYVA defeated ESU in the category's first match of the day by 28-12 points riding on Anderson who also scored a three pointer on the way to his 17-point finish, Tomthin (7 pts) and Ronaldo (4 pts).
Geetchandra (6 pts), Mangalsana (4 pts) and Ansuman (2 pts) on the other hand were on target for ESU.
Later in the day, Youth Club crushed YOSC by 64-37 points thanks to prolific scoring performances from Th Billgates (26 points including 2 three pointers) and Shriyans (20 points).
N Rathor (5 pts), Okram Baron (4 pts), Rohit Das (4 pts), L Irabanta (3 pts) and P Nisan (2) contributed the remaining score.
Ch Chetan in the meantime scored four triples in his 24-point finish for YOSC in a lost cause as Mayanglambam (4 pts) and M Telheiba (4 pts) contributed 8 points.
