BRIC-IBSD celebrates National Sports Day 2025 with three-day sports extravaganza

Imphal, August 31 2025: The BRIC-Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (BRIC-IBSD), Imphal, successfully celebrated National Sports Day 2025 from August 29-31, 2025, in honour of Major Dhyan Chand on his birth centenary, with enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, and students across the institute.

The three-day sports festivities were inaugurated by Dr H Nanaocha Sharma, Director (Additional Charge), BRIC-IBSD, who paid tribute to the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand and emphasized the importance of sports in maintaining physical fitness and mental well-being for the scientific community.

He highlighted how sports activities foster team spirit, leadership qualities, and stress management among researchers and students.

The celebration witnessed wide participation across all categories of staff including faculty members,students, technical and administrative personnel and outsourced staff, with sporting events including Badminton, Table Tennis (individual and team events), Football, Tug of War, and Blind Hit, along with additional recreational games designed to encourage participation from all segments of the institute community.

As the grand finale on August 31, 2025, BRIC-IBSD organized a vibrant bicycle rally as part of the nationwide "Sundays on Cycle" initiative.

The rally commenced from Kangla Western Gate and concluded at the IBSD campus at Takyelpat, Imphal West demonstrating the institute's commitment to environmental sustainability and community health initiatives.

The celebration aligns with the Government of India's vision of promoting sports and fitness as a mass movement.

Dr Sharma noted that the National Sports Day celebration reflects the institute's holistic approach to scientific excellence, recognizing that physical fitness and mental agility are essential for breakthrough research in bioresources and sustainable development.

The three-day celebration concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr H Mohendro Singh, Senior Administrative Officer, BRIC-IBSD, Imphal who expressed gratitude to Dr Sharma for his inspiring leadership, all participants for their enthusiasm, the organizing committee for their dedicated efforts, and local authorities for their cooperation in facilitating the bicycle rally too.
