X Polo lift State Polo championship title

X Polo Club, Wangkhei beat MPSC -B 9-4 today to lift the championship title of the 33rd N Hazari and Dr N Tombi State Polo Tournament 2017 organised by Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association at MapalKangjeibung.
In the final clash today, X Polo Club began the game with a 4-2 lead in the first chukker.
Th Kaoba scored two goals, P Ojit and L Tolenkhomba scored one each for X Polo Club while T Pradipkumar and H Abung Khuman scored one each for the MPSC side.
Thereafter, P Ojit (2) and L Atangba (1) extended the lead to 7-4 at the end of the second chukker as Abung Khuman and Pradipkumar of MPSC-B were able to score one each in the second half as well.
Despite the lead X Polo Club were eager for more goals and P Ojit and L Atangba were at it again scoring one goal each in the last chukker to hand their team a convincing 9-4 victory.
The valedictory function was attended by Karam Shyam, Minister Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution as chief guest, H Deleep Singh, Commissioner, YAS as president and Naorem Sanatombi Devi, W/ o (Late) Dr N Tombi Singh as the guest of honour.
Expressing concern over the dwindling population of the Manipuri Pony, the Minister said that the Veterinary Department, various polo associations of the State and other stakeholders must work together to find a permanent pony sanctuary to conserve one of the rarest pony species from the verge of extinction.
Minister Karam Shyam said, "It is a painful sight to see Manipuri Pony loose on the streets due to diminishing grazing grounds.
"The Manipuri Pony which was once used as military cavalry and in transportation are now in pitiful condition," he added.
The Minister handed X Polo Club the title trophy along with the prize money of Rs 50,000 .
MPSC-B were also awarded the runners-up trophy with cash prize of Rs 40,000 .
CRPF Polo team bagged the best discipline team award of Rs 10,000 .
