UPYC's 20-day summer kho-kho coaching camp gets underway

Imphal, May 20 2025:
A summer kho-kho coaching programme organised by United Progressive Youth Club (UPYC), Mani Yaiskul commenced from Tuesday at the Club ground.
The programme is in continuation of 20-day Summer Kho-Kho Coaching Camp 2025 being conducted in different districts since May 15 under the aegis of Manipur Amateur Kho-Kho Association (MAKKA) .
The Mani Yaiskul camp to be held till May 31 and sponsored by Imphal East District Kho-Kho Association (IEDKKA) is being participated by over 50 players in various age categories.
Senior national player S Sonia and kho-kho world cupper Rakesh are instructors of the camp.
According to MAKKA general secretary Moirangthem Madhusudan, the camp aims to provide an outlet for students during their summer vacation, build discipline and train players at the grassroots level to produce national and international level players.
While expressing that the standard of play and players are comparatively ordinary when compared with other states, the secretary, however, expressed elation that Rakesh of Awang Sekmai is the first from the state, who was part of the Indian team that won the Kho-Kho World Cup-2025 .
He also announced conduct of a kho-kho tournament in June to encourage players attending the summer camps, and appealed to guardians, district associations, schools and local clubs to extend support in producing world class players from the state.
