The penultimate day of the 69th State Open Junior Badminton Championship witnessed intense semifinal showdowns across age groups, as young shuttlers vied for a place in the coveted finals on Friday.
In the boys' singles U19 category, Martin Ingudam (BDBA) delivered a composed performance to defeat top seed Rishav Ngangom (BDBA) 21-14, 22-20 .
He will be joined in the final by Hemam Malemnganba Singh (BDBA), who cruised past Kalo Truman (SDBA) with a commanding 21-16, 21-4 victory.
The girls' singles U19 semifinals produced riveting three-game matches.
Top seed Leonie Tayenjam (IWDBA) overcame Laishram Nandita Devi (IEDBA) 21-10, 14-21, 21-9, while second seed Konsam Gunjan Devi (IEDBA) recovered from a game down to defeat Ashangbam Devika (IWDBA) 18-21, 21-12, 21-8 .
In the boys' singles U13 category, top seed Yangba Meitei Thokchom (IEDBA) outclassed Chirom Netcover Singh (IWD BA) 218, 21-12, and second seed Shannon Loitongbam (IWDBA) defeated Kakchingtabam Khenchandra Sharma (KDBA) 21-10, 21-16 .
The girls' singles U13 saw top seed Sarungbam Archana (IEDBA) get the better of Thingbaijam Bebina (BDBA) 21-15, 21-13, while Jia Sana-bam (IWDBA) held her nerve to beat Moirangthem Jenelia Devi (IWDBA) 21-16, 15-21, 21-16 .
In the boys' singles U9 category, Delrique Pukhrambam (KDBA) triumphed over Luching Yambem (IEDBA) 21-19, 21-2, and Khundrakpam Narjit Singh (BDBA) edged past Paleppa Soubam (IEDBA) 21-14, 22-20 .
In doubles action, the U19 boys' doubles final line-up was decided as Kyoveio Vemai and Rishav Ngangom (SDBA/BDBA) outplayed Brikson Singh Longjam and Wahengbam Yuvaraj Singh (BDBA/KDBA), while Hemam Malemnganba Singh and Khwairakpam Amarjit (BDBA) defeated Shaikhom Gung Singh and Thokchom Hursh Singh (TDBA/IWDBA) .
In the mixed doubles U19 semifinals, the top-seeded pair Rishav Ngangom and Konsam Gunjan Devi (BDBA/IEDBA) defeated Neelachal Pheiroijam and Angom Lanchenbi Devi (IWDBA), while Shaikhom Gung Singh and Rekispa Soubam (TDBA) overcame the second-seeded duo Pfoki Liruna and Chirom Bellarix (SDBA/IWDBA).
Among the youngest categories, boys' doubles U13 finalists were decided as Chirom Netcover Singh and Yangba Meitei Thokchom (IWDBA/IEDBA) beat Nameirakpam Devasis Singh and Shannon Loitongbam (IWDBA), while Bashilio Thongamba and Chungkham Irabanta (IEDBA/IWDBA) got past Hidangbam Bishal Sharma and Longjam Biyas Meetei (BDBA) .
