National Sports Day 2025 observed en masse across Manipur

Imphal, August 29 2025:
As the Nation observed National Sports Day, organisations in Imphal also hosted events to pay tributes to legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
Manipur University NSS Cell joined hands with the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science to observe the day at Dr Kamal Indoor Stadium.
The observance titled " Nationwide Celebration of Sports, Spirit and Unity" was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
MU VC Prof N Lokendra, Dean of Students' Welfare Prof Ch Ibohal, Assistant Director of Sports Dr Ch Pradip Singh and Head of Department of Physical Education and Sports Science Prof L Thambal attended the event as presidium members.
Imphal East District Cycling Association and Youths' Club Brahmapur also joined hands to observe that day with a Cycling Road Show this morning.
Manipur Fencing Association also observed the day at SAI Indoor Hall, Takyel amidst the ongoing Governor's Cup State Level Fencing Championship.
District Youth Affairs and Sports Office, Bishnupur also celebrated the day at the Water Sports Complex at Takmu.
Athletes of Khelo India Centre Takmu also organised canoeing and kayaking events and traditional boat rally as a part of the programme.
The day was also observed at RIMS, Lamphel; CAU, Iroisemba; Mount Everest College, Senapati; Kumbi Sandhong Upper Primary School; IBST, Takyel and other venues; Herbert School, Changangei with sporting events.
Senapati
Mount Everest College, Senapati observed National Sports Day, 2025 at its college campus under the theme, "Sports to promote Peaceful Societies".
The event was organised and celebrated under the directive of Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt of India through the state Governor and Directorate of University of Hr Education, Govt of Manipur and initiated by the IQAC in collaboration with the Sports Committee, Mount Everest College.
In his keynote address, Niomchung Jatak Chiru, IQAC Coordinator of the college stated that the day was observed in honour of the legendary Major Dhyan Chand, whose brilliance continues to inspire generations.
But this celebration goes beyond medals, adding it's a reaffirmation of one's commitment to a Viksit Bharat, where sports are a way of life, a source of unity, discipline, and national pride.
The IQAC Coordinator urged all to pledge to celebrate not just medal-winners, but every child who dreams, every coach who guides, and every parent who cheers.
From local fields to Olympic arenas, sport empowers the people to rise, respect, and persevere.
In Dhyan Chand's spirit, he urged all to play with focus.
In the champions' spirit, he urged to compete with courage and in the spirit of a united India, he urged to rise stronger, faster, and together.
Outdoor games including volleyball and basketball were played between department wise of the college.
Bisnupur
Joining the rest of the nation in celebrating National Sports Day, a three-day Sports Festival began today at Kumbi Sandhong Upper Primary School, fostering the spirit of games and sports among students.
The inaugural function was graced by Social Worker, Kh Surdas; Mahar Regiment Captain Akshit; BDKA president L Bimol Sharma; BDKA secretaries N Ibohal and H Naba; and Retd SSB personnel Kh Sanatomba and M Dilip as presidium members.
On the opening day, both boys and girls of the institute competed in the Kabaddi and indigenous wrestling (Mukna) game, celebrating the true spirit of sports.
SEYO-Akampat
Manipur Hockey and South East Youth organisation (SEYO) also joined hands to celebrate the National Sports Day at SEYO Hockey Turf, Akampat.
The event was attended by Thongju AC MLA, Th Biswajit; Olympian Ksh Thoiba; former Hockey India president Ningombam Gyanendro.
Speaking at the event, MLA Biswajit delved into the role of Sports in integrating communities and the Nation at large.
He also spoke on PM Modi's dream of realising a "Developed India" at the occasion.
Discipline, physical awareness and fitness elements involved in sports were also highlighted at the event.
An exhibition hockey match also marked the day.
