Kh Sanjoy clinches title of 7th Kh Ramnarayan Memorial State Level Open Chess Tournament

Khumukcham Sanjoy clinched the title of the 7th Khuraijam Ramnarayan Memorial State Level Open Chess Tournament.
Sanjoy, the highest rated player of the tournament, emerged on top courtesy of better Buccholz score after an 8-point tie with H Somokanta after 9 rounds and walked away Rs 25,000 richer along with a medal and certificate.
Sanjoy who was trailing after 7 rounds with 6 points defeated Elangbam Shashikanta in the 8th round before beating H Somokanta, who had sealed 8th straight wins, in the final round to come to level terms.

Sanjoy however emerged the winner via BH:GP/C1 (Buchholz-Cut1) tie-breaker method (51.5 against 48.5 for Somokanta) .
Somokanta in the meanwhile settled for a cash prize of Rs 18,000 .
Kongjengbam Poireikhomba in the meantime finished third on 7 and 1/2 points securing two of two wins today to content with a cash prize of Rs 13,000 as N Dhaneshwor, Oinam Ningthem and Ph Rajen who secured 7 points after 9-runs finished 4th, 5th and 6th on same 7 points to seal cash prize of Rs 9,000; Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 .
Other players who made it to the top 15 places were also feted with cash prizes, medals and certificates.
Nongthombam Anjelina was meanwhile declared best women player and feted with Rs 1,500.Nandeibam Jonex, Thoudam Dayanand and Elangbam Prichard were also adjudged first, second and third in the U-15 boys section while Sougaijam Nadia, RK Sanghamitra and Nameirakpam Lorena were declared first, second and third in the U-15 girls' category.
Sougaijam Lemba, Elangbam Mangai and Ngairangbam Lanchenba made it to the top three positions for U-11 boys' section as N Chahaonu, Nameirakpam Jojo and Hanjabam Rajasmita were placed first, second and third in the U-l1 girls' section.
Leirikhomba Mangang, RK Thoibi and Chongtham Messi were also named in the top three positions for the U-7 boys category as Linthoi Belencia was the best U-7 girl participating in the tournament.
S Robin, Irom Bit and Th Tomba were also the top three veteran players.
The valedictory function of the tournament organised under the aegis of the Manipur Chess Association (MCA) at Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School, Keishamthong was attended by Prof Dr Khuraijam Mohon, Principal Thambal Marik College as chief guest; Thongam Nabachandra, advisor to MCA as functional president; Thiyam Rajkishore, Advocate, High Court of Manipur and Khuraijam Ingobi, vice president, Ramnarayan Shashtri Memorial Trust as guests of honours who also led in distributing prizes to the participants including top three players in different age brackets.
