29th State Youth Basketball C'ship 2026 : Thoungamba guides LMYVA to 54-38 win over Model Club in boys' opener

Imphal, September 20 2026: Thoungamba scored 2 treys en route to his 22 point finish and set up LMYVA, Lalambung a comfortable 54-38 win over Model Club in the Group A opening match of the 29th State Youth Basketball Championship 2026 that kicked off this evening at Brahmapur Nahabam Basketball Court.

The Lalambung side dominated the game right from the beginning courtesy of leading performances from Thoungamba , Satish Ahanthem and Anderson, who chipped in 12 points apiece.

LMYVA led the first period 10-4 before making it 22-14 at halfway mark.

They then enjoyed a 32-24 lead till the third period before racing to a 54-38 win.

Woyipen Chitung also scored a triple and free throw to add 4 points to LMYVA's tally as Heisnam Geneva and Kh Chaoba scored 2 points apiece.

Model Club's Gison on the other hand scored match's high 24 in a lost cause followed by Sotin with 8 points, Yohenba with 4 points and Chingsuingamba with 2 points.

In the Group B opening match, ESU, Wangkhei outclassed Youth Club, Uripok 52-11 .

Chingkhei led the onslaught for ESU scoring 18 points including 2 treys as his teammate Prince added another bulk of 17 points.

Satish (5 pts), Robinhood (4 pts), Dishiraj (4 pts), Garry (2 pts) and Geetchandra (2 pts) were also on target for ESU .

Meanwhile, Irabanta scored a trey and a 2 point shot for Youth Club in their dismal loss as Rohit scored 4 points and Mangal added 2 points.

10 teams clubbed into two groups are participating in the boys segment while 5 teams are taking part in girls' segment.

The championship was formally opened in the presence of Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, MP (Rajya Sabha) and president BJP Manipur Pradesh, and Nishikant Sapam, MLA Keishamthong AC and president of Manipur Basketball Association as dignitaries.
