AS Khangamapam, M Roshan, Kingson Thono, RK Thoungamba ease into men's singles quarters

The 1st edition of Thongam Ibetombi Memorial Non State Badminton Tournament resumed today at Manipur Badminton Association Indoor Stadium inside DMU Campus after almost one and half month due to successive flood situations.

The day saw AS Khangamapam, Maisnam Roshan, Kingson Thono, RK Thoungamba ease past their respective rivals in the men's singles round of 16 matches.

In the first round of 16 match, RK Henry of Bishnupur had to retire in the third set handing Atom Power of IE an 18-21, 21-19, 21-4 win.

In another round of 16 clash, Maisnam Basantaraj of Thoubal defeated Sundeepkumar Laishram of IW 21-19, 21-16 as AS Khangamapam of Kamjong prevailed 21-13, 21-12 against IW's Khundrakpam Taibangnganba and M Roshan outlasted Surjit Nongthombam of IE 21-15, 21-13 .

In other round of 16 matches, RK Thoungamba got the better of Khwairakpam Kalenyai 21-18, 21-15 in an all Bishnupur clash; Soram Arbin of Thoubal edged out Konthoujam Arvind of IW 17-21, 21-8, 21-17 and Kingson Thono of Senapati defeated Rangkangbung Kamsom of Noney 21-16, 21-7 to seal their places in the quarterfinals.

Stage set for quarterfinals of men's doubles competition

The day also saw completion of quarterfinal line up of the men's doubles competition.

Konthoujam Arvind and SS Joel Kamei of IW made it to the quarterfinals with a 21-15, 21-16 win over IE's K Dayananda and N Zenith as another IW pair of Soibam Mishan and Thingom Theam defeated Hmangte Sarjan Kom and Huirem Pritam 21-11, 21-14 of Bishnupur 21-11, 21-14 .

IW's Ningombam Alex and Thokchom Ramananda also secured a place in the quarterfinals with a hardfought 21-17, 23-21 win over Bishnupur's Kh Davidson and RK Thoungamba before Khundongbam Dilip and M Basantaraj defeated Blesson Nungchim and Mathangmanei Rilvar Tarao 21-16, 21-16 and Senapati-IE pair of Kingson Thono and Shaileng K Shimray beat IE-Senapati pair of Engudam Inunganba and Wilson Kamei 21-16, 21-18 .

The pair of AS Khangamapam and Pouchundibou Newmai, IE pair of Konsam Netajit and Mayengbam Sanathoi and Thoubal pair of Soram Arbin and Sumanta Waikhom also registered victories in the men's doubles round of 16 clashes to progress into quarterfinals.

Th Kamaljit, L Mangal, Wungmayo Vashum, Sylse Longjam in U-19 Boys semi-finals

The semi-final line up of the U-19 boys singles competition were also completed today with Th Kamaljit of Jiribam, L Mangal of IW, Wungmayo Vashum of Senapati and Sylse Longjam of IW securing quarterfinal victories.

Th Kamaljit prevailed 21-11, 23-21 over Ksh Frenchis of Kakching in the first quarterfinal match as Mangal edged out Kh Kuljit of IW 21-13, 16-21, 24-22 in another quarterfinal match.

Wungmayo Vashum in the meantime knocked out Kakching's Ksh Began 21-12, 21-13 while Sylse Longjam got a walkover against IE's Pari Thingbaijam.

O Sailesh, P Delrique, S Joyraj, L Nongal advance into I-9 boys singles semis

Oinam Sailesh of Bishnupur, Pukhrambam Delrique of Kakching, Salam Joyraj of IE, Loitongbam Nongal of IW all emerged victories in the quarterfinal matches of the U-9 boys singles competition today.

Sailesh edged out compatriot K Birsingh 21-13, 15-21, 21-8 in the first quarterfinal clash as P Delrique eased past Pamel Namram of Thoubal 21-14, 21-13 .

S Joyraj meanwhile sealed a 21-17, 21-15 win over Hercules Laishram of Bishnupur before L Nongal of IW outlasted Oinamcha Sunrise of Bishnupur 21-6, 21-5 .

S Jiya, S Romibala, E Thoihenbi, Kh Memita reach U-11 girls semis

Sananbam Jiya of IE, Romibala Sarungbam of IW, Elangbam Thoihenbi of Kakching and Memita Khwairakpam of IW also posted quarterfinal victories in the U-11 girls singles competition this evening.

Jiya secured her semi-final ticket with an easy 21-4, 21-4 win over N Lingel of IW while Romibala got a walkover victory against Krity Lai of IE; E Thoihenbi defeated IE's Salam Lekina 21-11, 21-16 and Memita eased past IE's Ushmita Thingom 21-7, 21-6 .

The quarterfinal line ups for the U-17 boys singles, U-15 boys singles, U-13 boys singles, U-13 boys doubles, U-11 boys singles were also completed today.
