Jona Princie brings home gold from Moscow Wushu Stars Championship

Jona Princie Konsam brought home a gold and a silver medal from theMoscow Wushu Stars2023 International Tournament which was held from May 2 to 8 as Taruba Khuraijam returned with a silver medal.
Jona Princie and Taruba returned today after three other State athletes reached Imphal yesterday.
The tournament was par- ticipated by 8 Nations including India and as many as 15 State athletes who pro- duced outstanding performances at the Khelo India and National champions were among 50 Indian ath- letes partaking in the tournament.
Princie Jona, bom to Konsam Hemchandra and Konsam OngbiYungkham Sarita of Khurai Konsam Leikai, won the maiden international gold medal in the junior Taijijian event and the bronze medal in the Taijiquan event .
Princie Jona joined Central Wushu Institute in 2014 and undertook training under renowned Wushu Grandmaster Mayanglambam Biramani and Pebam Thoibi.
She also joined the Regular Coaching Centre organised by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports simultaneously and received training under coach Mayanglambam Sachidananda.
Mention may be made that Jona Princie had done the country proud by making it to the top positions in an International competition held online during the Covid pandemic.
The promising wushu player has also expressed her desire to further her training and excel in future National and international tournaments.
Although Jona Princie brought home two medals from Moscow, she expressed regret over the turmoil which engulfed the State recently and subsequent ban on internet services in the State which caused inconveniences to her in communicating with her parents and coaches.
Meanwhile Taruba Khuraijam won India a silver medal in this junior men's Taijiquan event.
Taruba, son of IGiuraijam Senet and Khuraijam Ongbi Gurumayum Ranita of Sagolband Tera Sayang, missed the gold medal by a whisker but is determined to better his performance in the upcoming tournaments.
Taruba started training Wushu in 2018 at Central Wushu Institute and has been a trainer at the Regular Coach- ing Centre.
Biramani Mayanglambam was of the opinion that the performance of the State athletes could have been better if there was no internet ban and had been able to encourage the players.
Stating that the recent communal clash was a very unfortunate incident, Biramani also prayed for speedy return of peace and harmony to ensure State athletes a better environment.
