All India Inter University Wushu Tourney : MU Wushu teams end campaign on high note, amass 20 medals

Imphal, May 10 2026:
The Manipur University men and women Wushu teams ended their All India Inter University Wushu Tournament campaign with a rich haul of 20 medals including 9 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze medals.
The women's team contributed 6 gold medals as the men gathered 3 gold medals in the tournament that was hosted by University of Kashmir from May 4 to 9.The men's team, meanwhile, sealed all the three silver medals as women shared the lion's share of 6 bronze medals of the total 8 .

N Velentina of Biramangol College and Maibam Priyakna of Liberal produced dominating performances at the event to amass 5 gold medals in the women's competition.
Velentina shone with 3 gold medals by pulling off top notch performances in Nanquan, Nandao and Nangun competitions while Maibam Priyanka grabbed two gold medals- one each in the Single Weapon and Taichi Type competitions.
Olica Naorem of Biramangol College also picked up a gold medal in the women's Nanquan event.
Okram Iyathoi of Biramangol College, meanwhile, excelled in the men's competition, securing all three gold medals alone- one each in the Nanquan, Nandao and Nangun events as W Bhumeswor Meetei of the same college won a silver medal apiece in the Taichi and Taijijian competitions.
Kh Prithiviraj of Kumbi College on the other hand picked the third silver medal in the men's Jianshu competition.
Olica Naorem also won a bronze medal in the women's Taijijian event as H Tomthinnganbi of TS Paul Manipur Women's College and W Silvia of Shree Shree Gourgovind Girls' College settled for a bronze medal apiece in the Taijiquan and Taichi Type events respectively.
In the meantime, Th Tanu Devi of TS Paul Manipur Women's College (48 kg), B Tamphasana of Kumbi College (52 kg) and N Abenao (60 kg) settled for a bronze medal apiece in the women's Sanda competition.
In the men's section, Jollyson Thangjam of Biramangol College (Nangun) won a taolu bronze as Tayenjam Suraj of Pravabati College (70 kg) picked a sanda bronze.
The MU teams were led by L Tomba Singh, Asst Prof, SK Women's College as manager and Kh Bobbi and H Damenti Devi as coaches.
Vice-Chancellor, Dean of Students' Welfare and Registrar, MU, and the MU Sports Committee extended heartfelt congratulations to the university team on their success at the tournament.
