45th National Masters Athletic Championship : Manipur end campaign with 92 medals, women emerge second runners up

Imphal, March 09 2025: Manipur women's team emerged second runners up as State ended the 45th National Masters Athletic Championship hosted by Karnataka in Bengaluru from March 5 with a rich haul of 92 medals including 49 gold, 32 silver and 11 bronze.

The final day of the championship saw Manipur amassing 10 gold, 9 silver and 2 bronze medals to the tally.

Yesterday, Manipur added 11 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Sarungbam Surjamani opened the State's gold medal account today securing top place in the 65+ men's 10 km race with a time of 41 minutes 5.37 seconds.

Nganyom Mobi won another gold medal for Manipur in the 75+ men's 1500 m race taking 8 minutes 15.21 seconds as Soraisam Manihar clocked 10 minutes 99 seconds to win the gold medal in the 80+ men's 1500 race.

Ngariyanbam Sobita meanwhile clinched the 70+ women's 1500 m race gold with a time of 8 minutes 1.22 seconds as Thoudam Akashini clocked 9:43.28 to win 75+ women's 1500 m race before Sh Surjamani won second gold medal by topping 1500 race for men's above 65 years with a time of 6 minutes 43.24 seconds.

Other athletes claiming gold medal today include Amom Isheihanbi who topped -60 women's 100 m race with a time of 23.28 seconds; Thongam Memcha who clocked best 16.68 seconds in 60+ women's 100 m race; S Thambal Sharma who topped 65+ men's 100 m race with a time of 13.35 seconds and Dr Umesh Takhellambam who clocked 11.37 seconds in the 35+ men's 100 m race.

Meanwhile, the athletes who finished second to settle for silver medals include Soraisam Manihar who took 1 hour 18 minutes and 58 seconds in the 80+ men's 10 km race; Thoudam Nabakumar who took 1 hour 10 minutes and 36 seconds in 75+ men's 10 km race; Langoljam Tomba who clocked 43:48.57 in 55+ men's 10 km race; Md Imtiyaz Rahman who took 40 minutes 20.29 seconds in the 40+ men's 10 km race; Chongtham Thambalsang who took 8 minutes 53.87 seconds in 70+ women's 1500 m race; Thokchom Ibemhal who took 10 minutes 7.24 seconds in 75+ women's 1500 race; Yumnam Brojen who took 5 minutes 57.4 seconds in the 60+ men's 1500 m race; K Romeshchandra who took 11.50 seconds in the 35+ men's 100 m race and K Shyama Devi who took 18.54 seconds in the 70+ women's 100 m race.

Shamurailatpam Manisana (65+ men's 100 m race- 20.75 seconds) and Lourembam Ashakumar (55+ men's 100 m race- 13.26 seconds) in the meantime finished third in their respective competitions to settle for bronze medals.
