Nganthoi leads ESU to 31-13 win over DSWC in junior girls' competition
Nganthoi scored six impressive two-point field goals to steer ESU, Wangkhei to a 31-13 win over DSWC in the second match of the 3-team junior girls State Level Basketball Championship being underway at Brahmapur Nahabam Basketball Court.
While Nganthoi added 12 points, Katherine added 9 points including a three pointer to set up the commanding win as Jelina (6 pts), Benjinna (2 pts) and Odisika (2 pts) registered the remaining 10 points.
For DSWC who were trailing 0-18 till halfway mark, Krishina scored 8 points as Devina (3 pts) and Halyn (2 pts) added 5 points to make it 13 points at the end.
ESU will play YOSC in the league leaders' deciding match on August 9.Both the teams are all but qualified for the final having registered a win apiece.
Junior Boys: Model Club, CYLC emerge victorious on Day 4
Meanwhile, in a Group A match of the junior boys competition, L Billgates contributed a team-high 23 points across four quarters as Model Club, Chingamakha bounced back to beat ESU, Wangkhei by 55-43 points following the team's loss to CYLC, Chingamathak.
Th Sotindrachand in the meantime added 12 points to set up the victory as L Telheiba managed two triples on the way to his 9-point finish.
H Rahul (7 pts) and H Lanchenba (4 pts) also made valuable contributions for the Chingamakha side as Kenedy and Langonba scored 9 points apiece for ESU.
Satish (8 pts), Mangal (7 pts), Milkan (5 pts), Kaku (3 pts) and Satcharaj (2 pts) were also on target for the Wangkhei side in this high scoring encounter.
Later in the afternoon, CYLC stretched their winning streak to three games in the Group A competition to assure their place in the semifinals by defeating Youth Club, Uripok a 58-53 defeat.
Achom Prince starred in the match scoring 27 points alone to set up the victory for CYLC despite Taibanganba (22 points) and Y Wilson (19 points) producing impressive performances for the Uripok team.
Leishemba also managed a double digit score of 15 points for the Chingamathak team as L Leishemba and Kh Daniel added 6 points apiece and Wungsungmi Siro added 4 points.
Notably, Y Wilson scored 4 triples for Youth Club on the way to his 19 point finish as Taibanganba added highest 22 points off 3 triples.
Y Benjamin also added 10 points for the team as compatriot Y Lanchenba added 2 points.
YOSC prevail 30-3 over LMYVA in Sub-Junior Girls competition
The day also saw YOSC, Khurai trounce LMYVA, Lalambung Makhong by 30-3 points courtesy of T Lanchenbi's match high 18-point finish.
As Lanchenbi added 18 points, Th Chaoba added 4 points while T Thoithoibi, Th Thasana, M Percy and W Linda added two points each.
Meanwhile M Hoshika scored two points for LMYVA after N Merinda converted a free throw.
LMYVA edge Model Club 56-54 in Sub-Junior Boys championship
Later in the evening, LYMVA sub-junior boys beat Model Club by 56-54 points in a closely contested encounter.
LMYVA dominated earlier proceedings and led 31-17 till halfway before walking away as 56-54 winners despite Model Club's impressive comeback in the last two quarters.
Anderson scored a record total of 45 points for LMYVA as Tomthinganba added 8 points and Malem secured another 3 points to seal the 56-54 win.
Thokchom Gison meanwhile top-scored for Model Club with 34 points to his name as N Lanchenba (8 pts), Asem Nelson (6 pts), Achom Phoenix (4 pts) and W Khaba (2 pts) contributed 20 points.
