Master athletes accorded warm welcome at Khuman Lampak

Imphal, March 01 2019: Athletes of Regular Coaching Centre (RCC) gave the master athletes who have brought home many medals from the 40th National Master Athletic Championship a warm reception at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium today.

The championship was held at Guntur, Andhra Pradesh from February 5 to 10 under the aegis of Master Athletic Federation of India.

The reception programme for the athletes who are practising at RCC at Khuman Lampak was graced by T Thouba, Assistant Director (Coaching and Training), Youth Affairs and Sports and Waribam Sushilkumar, Retd Deputy Director Youth Affairs and Sports as dignitaries who also honoured and encourage the athletes.

Achievement's of the various athletes
Both male and female athletes were at their best at the championship and have shown utmost performance to win multiple medals in various events.

S Thambal broke the National record in the above 60 years (male) high jump event with an exceptional 1.55 m jump to win his first gold medal at the championship.

S Thambal won his second gold medal in the 100 m race completing the course in 12.70 seconds while his third gold medal came up when his finished the 4100 m race with a time of 4:47.56 seconds.

S Thambal won the silver medals in the 4100 with a time of 55.75 second and in the 200 m event in which he took 27.78 seconds.

S Babuyaima who is taking part in the above 65 years events bagged 5 gold medals alone.

S Babuyaima took 2:46.7 seconds to win his first gold medal in the 800 m event and managed his second gold medal in the 1500 m event with a time of 6:0.28 seconds.

Babuyaima got his third gold medal in the 2000 m steeplechase event by taking 9:03.5 seconds.

S Babuyaima fetched his fourth gold medal in the 4400 m event taking 4:47.56 seconds while the fifth gold medal as assured when he completed the 4100 in 55.76 seconds.

The other medallists from the State include, Th Biren (Gold medal in 65+: 12.70 m); K Kesho Singh (Gold in 80+ Hammer Throw: 12.87 m); Ch Iboton Singh (Gold medal in 70+ 4400 m race: 5:48.95 seconds) and L Ibomcha Singh (Bronze Medal in 2000 m Steeplechase event for 60+: 10:09.3 seconds) .

Women Events
Shyama Devi, S Suneeta Devi, L Inaobi Devi and Th Memcha Devi also shone in the championship clinching multiple medals in various events Shyama Devi (65+ women's category) bagged 5 gold medals and one silver medal in this championship with first gold medal coming up in the high jump event with a 1.02 m finish and the second gold medal in the long jump event wherein she managed the best 3.29 m.K Shyama Devi finished second in the 100 m race to win the silver and grabbed two gold more gold medals one each in the 4100 m and 4400 events.

S Suneeta (above 75 years) also did a star turn in the championship as she clinched 5 gold medals in various events which include Long Jump; Tripple Jump; 4100; 4400 and Discus Throw events.

S Surodhoni (above 60 years) made the best move in the javelin throw event to win a gold registering best of 17.16 m while she settled for silver medal in the 300 m hurdles race (1:39.33) .

Th Memcha Devi bagged 2 gold medals, 2 silver and one bronze medals in various events for above 55 years at the championship.

Memcha clocked 1:12.68 and 6:25.43 in 4100 m and 4400 m events to win the gold medals while she finished second in the 200 m and high jump event to bag silver medals.

She got a bronze medal in the 100 m event where she took 17.6 seconds to complete the course.

Other medallists who were feted today are S Manisana (above 60 years: 1 gold in 4400 and 2 bronze medals in 400 m race and 4100m ); RK Devajani (70+; bronze medal in hammer throw); Ch Thambalsang (60+ 4400m gold; 4100m bronze); Ph Purnimashi Devi (above 55 years : 4100 m gold and 4400 gold); T Lena Devi (above 55 years : 4100 m gold and 4400 gold) and Ksh Premlata Devi (Above 50 years : 4400 silver) .
