Imphal East district team retain overall team champions title

Imphal East district fencing team emerged overall team champions once again securing a huge total of 220 points in the 21st Governor's Cup State Level Fencing Championship.

Imphal East fencing team amassed 24 gold, 23 silver and 31 bronze medals across various categories as Imphal west team however finished runners up with 53 points from 5 gold, 6 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Imphal East children boys and girls' teams; mini girls' team; sub-junior boys and girls' teams; cadet boys and girls' teams; junior boys and girls' teams; senior men and women's teams also emerged champions besides securing overall champion titles for boys (104 points) and girls (116 points) .

Final Day bouts

The final day of the championship saw Kh Rajiv of Imphal East securing the junior boys' foil gold by beating compatriot K Abhinash in the final.

Kakching's Sh Jennit meanwhile earned the junior boys' epee gold medal by defeating K Dronel of Imphal East in the final.

Ng Mangangba of Imphal East meanwhile earned the junior boys' sabre gold beating compatriot N Saolin in the title clash.

T Mangaleibi of Imphal East in the meantime clinched the junior girls' foil event gold by beating compatriot Kh Anjali in the final as L Chinglembi beat N Dibiya in the all Imphal East junior girls' epee event final and P Ambika beat P Babydaina in an all Imphal East junior girls' sabre event final.

The closing function was attended by Naorem Praveen, Secretary YAS, Education (S) & MA/OBC and SC, Government of Manipur; Sinam Pritamkumar.

additional secretary to the Governor of Manipur and president, Manipur Fencing Association; Dr Mayengbam Veto, Director YAS and Samritya Laishram, AD (KI&MC), SAI NERC who also distributed prizes to the winners.
