SSU emerge champions of 14th Shaheed Manoranjan Memorial Football tournament

Imphal, February 23 2024: L Roshan scored twice as Southern Sporting Union (SSU), Singjamei sealed the title of the 14th Shaheed Manoranjan Memorial with a 3-0 rout of DMRAO, Sekmai in the final today at SAI football turf in Takyel.

The joint winners of the recently concluded 1st Premier League dominated the possession from the beginning of the match that was played under slight drizzle but were unlucky not to score until L Roshan found the lead five minutes into the added time of the opening half.

They picked up the game from where they left and raced to a 2-0 lead with L Kishan scoring three minutes after the restart before L Roshan had his second after 61 minutes to assure themselves of a comfortable victory.

DMRAO ramped up their defence to disallow further goals from their Singjamei rivals while also putting in more effort at the front to reduce the margin in the later part of the game.

SSU defence were, however, too tight to break through and thus their efforts to add a goal went abegging.

Eventually SSU walked away Rs 3 lakh richer and with the title trophy as DMRAO pocketed the runners up prize of Rs 2 lakh and a trophy.

Y Sonam Chothe of DMRAO emerged top scorer of the tournament as N Kiranjit of SSU, N Kiranjit of SSU, and L Roshan of SSU were adjudged best goalkeeper, best player and man of the match respectively.

They were all feted with a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each.

AIM, Khabam, in the meantime, were feted with the fair play award carrying a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 10,000 .
