Imphal, July 25 2025: Former Manipur Governor Gurbachan Jagat in a condolence message expressed deep shock and sadness over the untimely demise of Ratan Thiyam.

"Late Ratan, a pioneer of the Theatre of Roots movement in India was acknowledged as one of the most influential directors not only in Manipur or India but in the entire world," said Gurbachan in a condolence message.

He said the demise of Ratan Thiyam has left a void that will be difficult to fill and heralds the end of an era in Indian theatre.

Offering deepest condolences to the members of his bereaved family and his theatre associates, he prayed that they have the strength to weather the great loss.
