Imphal, December 23 2014:
The Maram Students' Union has expressed serious concern over the menace of overloaded vehicles along NH-2 (Imphal-Maram/Mao/Dimapur stretch).
A statement issued by the MSU said that the condition of the road deteriorated due to the excessive weight of overloaded vehicles.
These overloaded vehicles are also causing safety hazard, it said.
Though the permissible limit of weight to be carried by trucks is learnt to be 16 tonnes, incidents of trucks carrying goods over 45 tonnes are quite prevalent.
The silence of the authority concerned over the matter is also questionable, it said while urging the authority concerned to curb the menace at the earliest.
