Imphal, May 11 2010:
At least 13 vehicles, six Tata Sumos and seven maruti vans, returning from Moreh bringing rice and other essential commodities have been hijacked today by armed persons suspected to be hill-based underground activists from Thamnapokpi areas in Chandel district on the Imphal-Moreh section of the NH-39 .
The vehicles were hijacked at gun point at about 7.30 pm today after they were forced to drive upto near Navodaya Vidyalaya at Liya Sarei where the passengers were dropped.
The passengers were allowed to proceed on foot from there and the vehicles were taken away with the drivers, police said.
Yesterday also many vehicles returning to Imphal from Moreh were looted by some armed miscreants, reports said.
