Decrying monetary demands from various outlawed organisations based both at the hills and the valley, stone crushers operating in Sekmai area have decided to cease work for an indefinite period starting from tomorrow.
Announcing before the media at Manipur Press Club today, secretary of Northern Valley Stone Crusher Owners' Welfare Association Sukhdev Sharma said around 24/25 stone crushers operating in Sekmai area have taken the decision to cease work as the last option of appealing to the UG groups to withdraw their unbearable monetary demands.
In each of the stone crushing unit, around 40 labourers are being employed.
Although all of them are daily wage earners, the monetary demand of the various UG groups is huge.
As such we have decided to close down the units, he explained.
