On charges of alleged sedition, president of Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) has been arrested by a police team led by OC of Imphal Police RK Khomdon from Manipur Press Club today evening.
Kangleipal was reportedly arrested for his seditious address during a press conference on May 5.He has been charged under Section 124 (A) of Indian Penal Code, Section-IX of Punjab Security Act and Section-VIII (B) of Assam Maintenance of Public Order Act.

Before his arrest, Kangleipal was participating in a penal discussion held at Press Club on the topic of implication of issuing guns to the people by the Government.
The penal discussion began at around 11 am today and while Kangleipal was delivering the key note address, police commandos were seen deployed around the complex of the Press Club.
Sensing the situation, some Meira Paibis did not allow him to go out of the Club even after the end of the discussion session.
At around 7 pm, OC of Imphal Police RK Khomdon came to the Press Club along with an arrest of warrant on whose basis Kangleipal was arrested.
Meanwhile, UPF, NIPCO, AMSU, Mapi Council, MAFYF, Human Rights Defender, AMKIL, TammiChingmi, Nupi Samaj, Advanced Women Society (Sekmai), Thoubal District United Women Development Organisation, UPACCO (Thoubal), THANIL, ANUL (Bishnupur) and Macha Leima have strongly condemned the arrest of Kangleipal and warned of launching agitation if he is not release from police custody without any condition at the earliest possible.
Along with sending an urgent appeal to the Defender Section of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and World Organisation Against Torture, these human rights groups have also termed the arrest of Kangleipal as violation of the freedom of expression guaranteed under Article 19 of Indian Constitution.
