Lawyer fraternity in insurgency hit Manipur has convened a meeting at the premises of Sessions' court, Cheirap here on May 9 to discuss the prevailing situation in the wake of an underground group issuing death threat to a lady Judge.
The underground Kangleipak Communist Party, Military Council (KCP-MC) accused Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Bishnupur Tara Devi of conniving with soldiers of 7 Assam Rifles in the recent killing of its cadre, Md Zimi.
On Friday last the rebel group, while asking tara Devi to surrender before it within five days, said there would be no leniency if she defies giving up within the stipulated time despite being a lady.
The lady CJM, who hails from Keishampat, however, rejected the outfit's allegation saying that she has no acquaintance with any officer or personnel of the said para military force.
In separate emergency meetings held on Saturday the All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) and All Manipur Judicial Officers Association (AMJOA) urged the outfit concerned to retract its decision.
AMBA decided that its members would abstain from all court proceedings until and unless the outfit withdraws its threat against Tara Devi.
On Monday the Gauhati High Court Bar Association (GHCBA), Imphal bench that held an emergency meeting resolved to endorse AMBA's resolution and since then lawyers of this Court have been suspending all court works giving a big blow to the litigants of the state, said the assn's secretary advocate K Rabei Singh.
A joint meeting of GHCBA and AMBA would be held to discuss the tough situation prevailing in the judiciary system at Cheirap court premises on Friday, Rabei said adding that a decision might be taken in it.
It is learnt that the govt has provided security escorts to tara Devi.
