Imphal, August 29 2026:
A man from Haorang Keiren in Imphal West donated two sets of Puya (archaic Manipuri manuscripts) to the Manipur State Archives at Keishampat under the Department of Art and Culture today.
The manuscripts were handed over to Art and Culture Director K Dinamani by one Yengkhom Amuthoi, son of Y Mukta.
According to Amuthoi, the Puya had been preserved by his elders.
Speaking to the media, Dinamani said that the decision by different Puya custodians to entrust the manuscripts to the Government, one after another, is an encouraging development.
He said that Puya custodians entrusted the ancient texts to the Archives for preservation, despite their sacred significance.
Calling for the preservation of Puya, he said photographs and brief histories of the donors would be displayed at the Puya House of the State Archives.
He appealed to the Puya custodians to donate the ancient texts to the Archives for preservation.
He also sought support from the masses in the endeavour to preserve Puya.
