Imphal, August 29 2025:
The Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) has stated that the two crucial highways, Imphal-Jiribam and Imphal-Dimapur, have become death traps for drivers, highlighting their deplorable condition.
Today, a team of MDA representatives went to the residence of Thounaojam Dhamendra, a driver, at Huikap Maning Leikai, who was killed in an accident on the Imphal-Jiribam road near Nungba on August 25 and extended financial assistance to his family.
Speaking to the media, MDA general secretary Sanjoy Kshetrimayum stated that successive Governments have failed to properly maintain the 222-km Imphal-Jiribam and 110-km Imphal-Dimapur roads, offering only empty assurances.
He continued that numerous drivers have lost their lives and many others have been injured while driving on the National Highways.
Reiterating that these highways have become death traps for drivers, Sanjoy urged the Government and relevant authorities to maintain the highways up to modern standards and also provide all possible assistance to the family of Dhamendra.
He also appealed to fellow drivers to lend a helping hand when they encounter broken-down trucks or accidents along the highways.
A little help can save a precious life, he added.
Sanjoy was accompanied by MDA president Saikhom Babudhon, advisor Samom Ganga and assistant general secretary Kh Sangeetcharan.
