Following a joint effort of Chandel police, BSF, Assam Rifles, local volunteers and village authorities of Chakpikarong area, three children who went missing on Monday evening from Oriental Hostel, Hringphe under Chakpikarong in Chandel district have been safely found.
The three children who went missing from the hostel which comes under Chakpikarong Police Station were found after about 48 hours, Chandel police said.
According to the police, the children were first reported missing around 5 pm on Monday (August 25).After receiving the information, OC Chakpikarong Joy Martin and his team immediately launched a search operation.
Early morning the following day, search teams started covering bus and auto stands, nearby villages and routes, but no trace of the missing children were discovered.
By evening, under the supervision of SP Chandel, Dharmendra Tyagi, MPS, and with support from local youths, village authorities, BSF (C-Coy 200), and Assam Rifles (Shaluk Post), a large joint combing operation was launched.
Around 9:20 pm, two of the boys were found in the jungle near Hringphe village, while the third boy had fled further inside, the police said.
Despite searching late into the night, he could not be located.
The operation resumed early Wednesday morning around 5 am when the last boy was safely recovered near Chakpi riverbank, Chandel police said.
All three children are now safe in the custody of Chakpikarong police and have been given medical check-ups at PHC Chakpikarong.
The boys will be handed over to the concerned authorities after completing necessary formalities, the police said.
In connection with this case, Chandel Police has expressed gratitude to the local youths, women volunteers, village authorities, BSF, Assam Rifles, and all who stood by and extended their support throughout the search.
