Imphal, July 24 2026:
An apparent "negligence" by the NHIDCL in drainage construction work has "caused" a tree to fall and damage the house of a family at Takyel Kolom Leikai.
The tree fell onto the roof of the house at around 4.30 am today.
While no one was hurt, the tree caused significant damage to the house.
The house belongs to Ningthoujam Ningol Yumkham ongbi Kavita (53), wife of late Yumkham Sharatchandra.
Her son Y Token (36) said "negligence" by the NHIDCL in drainage construction work caused the tree to fall on the house.
The drainage along NH-37 was constructed about 2 months ago.
While constructing the drainage near his house, Token said earth was removed from the base of the tree but never put back, causing it to fall on to the house.
While the tree has not been removed, the family is afraid to stay in the house, he said.
When approached, some contractors have denied responsibility, he said, seeking the Government and related authorities of the NHIDCL for assistance.
