A sit-in protest was staged today at Phumlou to condemn the brutal attack on a local Anganwadi worker by unidentified miscreants on the evening of September 19 .
The assailants stabbed the Anganwadi worker identified as Moirangthem Malemnganbi (30), wife of M Basanta of Phumlou Siphai Maning Leikai in the head and allegedly snatched her gold necklace.
Malemnganbi is reported to be in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity, where she remains unconscious.
Placards with inscriptions "Stop crime against women", "We condemn the brutal attack on Malemnganbi", "Punish the culprits" were displayed among others.
Speaking to the media, M Pushpa, Malemnganbi's sister-in-law, stated that the incident occurred around 4.30 pm on September 19 while Malemnganbi was alone at home.
She continued that the unidentified miscreants entered the house while Malemnganbi was in the kitchen, locked the house's doors, stabbed her sister-in-law in the head, and stole her gold necklace.
She said that her sister-in-law is still unconscious.
Pushpa maintained that the incident occurred in broad daylight, and her sister-in-law's cries for help prompted her to rush to the house.
However, all the doors were found closed, she said and added that the assailants escaped through the western side door when she attempted to break it open.
Stating that police detained two individuals in connection with the case, but both have been released, she urged the relevant authorities to identify and penalise the assailants.
