Imphal, August 23 2025:
Senior Citizens Club (SCC), Manipur has urged Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to take up the issue of opening the two National Highways in the State as a top priority.
A letter to the Governor signed by K Binotbabu Singh, president, SCC has termed the blockade of the National Highways as the single largest problem faced by the public, particularly the poor.
It pointed out that despite clear instructions from the Union Home Minister, the two highways which serve as the lifeline of the State are yet to be opened.
Highlighting the problems faced by the public irrespective of ethnicity due to the blockade, the SCC letter further stressed that opening of the highways and providing safe passage to all ethnic communities will be an indicator of peace and normalcy returning in Manipur.
Acknowledging the complexities involved in accomplishing this task, SCC interjected that the need to open the highways far outweighs the problems.
Thus, it has requested the Governor to prioritize the issue and take the first concrete step towards the return of tangible peace in Manipur.
On the other hand, SCC has also thanked the Government of Manipur for their good works including the ongoing antiencroachment initiative taken up by the administration, start of the long delayed work on the Imphal Ring Road and suspension of police personnel suspected to have been involved in a drug case, among others.
