Manipur celebrates International Yoga Day

As observed across the globe, the 11th International Yoga Day 2025 was celebrated in Manipur under the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health" .
BISHNUPUR
District Administration Bishnupur under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam observed IYD at Kyamba Ningshing Shanglen, Bishnupur.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the global acceptance of Yoga, which originated from India, and emphasized the pride associated with its widespread practice.
The yoga session was led by RK Birendra, Secretary of the Bishnupur District Yoga Assana Sports Association.
The program was attended by ADM Bishnupur T Opendro, various District Level Officers (DLOs), and members of the Yoga Association.
In addition to the main event, line departments of the district also marked the day by organizing yoga sessions at different locations, contributing to the widespread observance and promoting the practice throughout the community.
In celebration of International Yoga Day, Radha Madhava Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya (RMASM), Nambol, under the aegis of its Internal Quality Assurance Cell inaugurated a State-Level Three-Day Yoga Orientation Program today.
The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr Buddheswar Sarangi, Principal-in-Charge, followed by the presidential speech by Professor Sudhesna Bhattacharjee, Chairperson of the Managing Committee.
Professor Prahalad R Joshi, Vice-Chancellor of Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, Nalbari, Assam, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The inaugural proceedings included a prayer and the recitation of Bhakti Yoga Abhyasa (Chapter 10 of the Bhagavad Gita), led by Dr Sarangi, followed by a collective Yogasana session involving faculty, staff, and students.
JIRIBAM
At Jiribam, International Yoga Day (IYD) was observed in different parts of the district today.
Zonal Education Officer, Jiribam observed the day at the auditorium hall of RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya while Jiribam Forest Division and IRCS Jiribam observed IYD at Division Forest Uchathol.
NSS Unit & IQAC Jiri College in collaboration with the Assam Rifles celebrated IYD at Jiri College and Jiribam District Police at the police station.
Additionally, District Health Society, Urban AAM Kalinagar and Uchathol Pioneer Club Jiribam organised an IYD observation ceremony at UPC Hall today.
Today's celebrations were attended by students, teachers, officials, SHGs, club volunteers, police and para military personnel and various Yoga asanas were demonstrated.
KAKCHING
Like the rest of the country, Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Field Office Chandel, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, hosted a Special Outreach Programme on "International Day of Yoga 2025" at Elang-Keinya High School, Elangkhangpokpi in Kakching district today.
The event was graced by the founder of Elang-Keinya High School, Elangbam Somendro Singh Laiphrakpam Surjit Singh, Principal In-Charge and N Gitchandra Singh, president of Bharat Swabhiman Trust, Kakching, who served as special guests and resource person and also the Yoga instructor.
In his keynote address, Mathew Sk Bengam, Field Publicity Assistant, CBC, FO, Chandel, emphasized the significance of yoga, derived from Sanskrit, meaning a practice that harmonizes body, mind, and spirit.
The programme featured cultural performances by M/s Kala Sangam, Imphal, a PRT of CBC, RO, Imphal aligned with the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health".
A quiz competition was also organized, with prizes awarded to winners.
PHERZAWL
IYD was also celebrated across Pherzawl district to promote the physical and mental health benefits of Yoga.
The Zonal Education Office, Pherzawl, organized a Yoga session at its camp office where Deputy Inspectors of Schools, Assistant Inspectors and other staff participated to highlight the numerous benefits of yoga.
Similarly, officials and staff of Community Health Centre Parbung and Primary Health Centre Patpuihmun demonstrated various Yoga postures at their respective premises to showcase Yoga's positive impact on health.
Pherzawl Police also participated in the celebrations by organising a dedicated yoga session for its personnel at Parbung police station.
Meanwhile, the District Administration continued the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) campaign at Ankhasuo village under Vangai Block.
THOUBAL
Integrated Rural Development and Educational Organisation (IRDEO-RRTC) observed the 11th IYD at their Auditorium Hall in Wangbal, Thoubal.
The event was graced by Moirangthem Nara Singh former Minister as the chief guest; M Rajendra Singh, president, Senior Citizen Welfare Forum Manipur as the functional president and M Nabachandra Singh, secretary, Senior Citizen Welfare Forum Manipur as the guest of honour.
The event was attended by more than 150 participants comprising senior citizens, school children, nursing students and youth from different parts of the State.
Two Yoga experts delivered speeches on the importance of Yoga, types and style of Yoga, Yoga and health and Yoga in daily life.
The experts also demonstrated various Yoga postures and requested the participants to do the same.
Separately, BJP Heirok Mandal observed the 11 th IYD at Heirok Higher Secondary School ground, Heirok Part III Kaboleikai in the presence of Heirok MLA Th Radheshyam as the chief guest.
The event was graced by BJP Heirok Mandal vice president, secretary, karyakartas and BJYM members.
BJP Thoubal District also held an event dedicated to the observance of IYD at Khongjom War Memorial Complex today.
Meanwhile, Thoubal District Table Tennis Association (TDTTA) and Wangmataba Youth Club (WYC) organised the celebration of the 11th IYD 2025 at its Indoor Stadium located along Thoubal Wangmataba College Road.
The celebration was attended by Professor Rajendra Sinam, Senior Urologist, former HoD, Urology Department, RIMS as the chief guest; Th Guni, president, WYC and retd MCS as the functional president and Dr Ksh Manglem, retd CMO, Imphal East; Konsam Michael, retd Assistant Director, SAI NERC Takyel Imphal and TDTTA president and Dr L Jeeceelee, DFO, Thoubal Forest Division as the guests of honour.
TDTTA honourary secretary Dr AK Brojen was also present at the gathering.
Evergreen Flowers' (EGF) School also observed the day at the school premises with the attendance of retd Headmaster and CFO of the school Dr Okram Ibopishak; H Ibohal, retd head pandit EGF School; Headmaster Th Chandra; Assistant Headmaster L Radhamani and N Amarjit, Yoga instructor and assistant teacher as the presidium members.
Similarly, Development For Women's Programme Centre (DWPC) Thoubal observed International Yoga Day at Manihar School, a co-ed special school located at Thoubal Wangmataba.
UKHRUL
BJP Ukhrul District celebrated International Yoga Day at Turf Ground, Kaziphung in Ukhrul district.
The event was held in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, Mandal presidents, district and mandal morchas, office bearers etc .
Assam Rifles/Indian Army
As part of the 11th International Day of Yoga, Assam Rifles launched a State-wide wellness campaign from June 5 onwards across Manipur.
Pre-Yoga Day sessions were conducted at Keithelmanbi, Sehlon, Sajik Tampak, Komlakhong, Moreh, Maijing Polo Ground, Shakpao, Ramva, Shirui Hill, Wanglee, Kwatha, Shaibol and Good Shepherd School, Kasom Khullen, among others.
The major celebration of IYD by Assam Rifles was held at Headquarters IGAR (South), Mantripukhri, participated by around 350 personnel including Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, Jawans and their families.
Today's celebrations spanned more than 35 locations across Imphal West, Imphal East, Ukhrul, Kamjong, Chandel, Tengnoupal, Kakching, Thoubal and Churachandpur districts.
Over 5000 individuals including AR personnel, families, schoolchildren, local youth, villagers and ASHA workers took part in structured yoga sessions guided by trained instructors.
Participants practised asanas, pranayama and meditation techniques aimed at promoting physical fitness, mental clarity and emotional well-being.
In addition to the various forward locations, key events were held at Mantripukhri and Keithelmanbi Garrisons in Imphal West, Somsai and Shangshak Garrisons in Ukhrul, Veng, Khuga, Singhat, Tuibong, Behiang, Kangkap, Z Khunou, Suangdai and H Khunou and various forward locations in Churachandpur, Sajik Tampak and Khengjoi in Chandel, Pallel in Kakching and T Minou and Chavangphai in Tengnoupal district.
Company Operating Bases at Moreh, Chassad, Kasong, Sorde, Kamtong, Aishi, Kongkhan and others also hosted yoga sessions.
At the Integrated Check Post (ICP), Moreh Assam Rifles in collaboration with BSF personnel, ICP staff, Land Ports authority of India, School children and teachers practiced yoga led by a trained instructor.
Mass yoga events in villages in Chandel including Sehlon, Aibol Joupi, Phoilen, Samtal and Hengkot and in Khuga, Behiang, Singhat and Z Khunou areas of Churachandpur.
Special initiatives included a free eye check-up camp at Chandel benefiting over 150 locals and interactive youth engagement events for 68 students.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army celebrated IYD by organising a Yoga session at Leimakhong Military Station and Thanga Football Ground.
Students from Jajoo's Boarding School, Green Sprout School and New Life Boarding School participated in a Yoga session at Yaingangpokpi, Imphal East.
Joint Yoga sessions were also held at Litan, Maphou and Island villages as well as Emmaneul School, Thamnapokpi and Khurkhul in Imphal West district.
